You made me real curious, so I did a push test through some leather I had lying around... Iron Will Wide vs a VPA 1 1/4" with a slightly chiseled tip, vs a hand sharpened QAD Straight out of my quiver.
1st off, the Iron Will is stupid easy to push through leather, way easier than the QAD...
Yep. It's easy to redo serving. Take a sharpie and mark the top/bottom ends and you can match the total length of serving pretty easily. Levi Morgan has a video on interlocking wraps to keep the serving from slipping again like that.
I stopped buying the blade angle argument after listening to Snyder and Lusk talk penetration being correlated to friction, not angle of attack. Basically short blades have less friction in any medium because there's less surface area. I believe @Bill V of Iron Will saw similar results in his...
Muscles use carbs for fuel. Body builders need carbs to go with their protein or they don't gain muscle, and any endurance athlete is using carbs to get them through their event.
Snacks in the mountains need to have quickly accessible sugars via carbs or you bonk out... I get plenty of protein...
I have to fatten up before backpack hunts cause I can't get enough calories inme to avoid weight loss... eating at home vs in the mountains is two different things.
That said, for backpacking I like sausage sticks, trail mix, lara bars, and fritos for my daytime snacking.
With a 400 gr arrow, and those specs, she'll still be shooting a faster arrow than many trad hunters. You can definitely use a 1 1/8" to 1 1/4" cut head. I much prefer the Magnus Black Hornet to the Stinger, due to a stronger ferrule design. VPA 3 blades would probably do well if you can get...
I try not to camp on top, as much as I can help it... but sometimes you gotta camp pretty high. Definitely have just sat in the tent and prayed till the storm passed a couple times.
I'm testing the QAD exodus with my longbow this season. 500 gr arrows moving around 180fps. Took the chisel tips and honed them and blades to stupid sharp levels in 5 minutes with a diamond stone and strop.
I should have clarified a bit. I'm all for swapping from mylar to ziplocs. They pack way smaller. I just don't think the water waste to cook in your pot is that big if you plan that rinse water as part of your daily consumption.
Dang! Glad you're okay! That is exactly why we carry those devices. I remember a couple very scary times in the mountains when we didn't have an SOS option, and it's not fun. First time that happened I was 14 and had to help my dad hobble/get carried out of the mountains with severe altitude...
If the water is in short enough supply I can't make coffee, I'm hunting elsewhere! How the heck are you supposed to hunt effectively if you're chronically dehydrated anyways?
But in the spirit of water conservation, I generally drink the rinse water with all the leftovers of my meal before I go...
I don't get the big deal about rehydrating in the bag. I just use the titanium pot I boiled the water in... It's also what I drink my coffee out of in the mornings. Give 'er a little rinse before bed, and that rolling boil will clean the rest out come morning!
Welcome to Rokslide. The forum rules don't allow naming units. All that said, I think you oughta just give it hell. Don't worry about buying onto land... OnX all the public lands available and stay mobile to avoid hunting pressure and find some critters. Door knock too, if you find something to...
