    Arrow Penetration....

I can get on board with that logic. From what I’ve seen Sevrs are good durable broadheads and any broadhead will kill elk if you hit it right.

    Arrow Penetration....

I can see the appeal of large cut expandables for deer hunters but they have no place in the quiver while elk hunting imo.

Thanks for following along guys! Looks like tag soup for me this year but it wasn’t due to a lack of trying! I’m excited for future seasons chasing these awesome bucks in some beautiful country. Saw the big buck Friday morning but was unable to make a move on him. That “Hunting not killing”...

For anyone still keeping up…. I’m headed west! 3 days to seal the deal. Let’s get it done.

I did not… Looks like a big sow to me but if we are being honest that’s the first wild bear I’ve ever seen so still have plenty to learn about them.

Im glad you enjoyed the read. I agree 100%. It’s looking like I’m going to get a bonus 3 days to hunt that deer and be in some beautiful country this weekend. A long drive but I’ll sleep better at night knowing I gave it everything I could to get the job done. I don’t kill snakes either… they...

Let’s all cross our fingers and hope I can finish the story this weekend… Won’t know 100% if I can hit the road and get another chance until Thursday 🤞

Guys, this story may not be over just yet… I’m hopeful I can get Friday off work. IF I can make that happen I’m giving this buck 1 more run for his money. Would leave Thursday afternoon & drive through the night to hunt Friday, Saturday, and Sunday morning.

It is! Still hanging on in the velvet. Thought that was pretty cool. I believe he was the only ram with an ear tag out of 7. There’s no sheep hunts in this unit & Im sure the DNR keeps a close eye on these rams.

@RC_ Those 2s did something to my brain man… most us whitetail hunters aren’t very used to 17” tines sticking up in the air!

Look close and there’s 2 studs in that pic! First bighorns I’d ever seen. We can only hope one day they will be plentiful across all the Rockies!

Agreed. May have come out light but I’m marking this hunt down in the W column.

Anyone else have a buddy bail at the last minute? (CO Archery Elk 2024)

I just returned from a solo mule deer hunt. Your statement is so true. I have buddies I would’ve enjoyed being on the mountain with until things got hard. Then they would’ve just been a downer the rest of the time. I had 2 guys I actually invited and probably 6 that said they would love to go...

Time is up and I left him on the mountain.

Well I just arrived home from my very first western hunt. A mule deer archery hunt in a place I hope to return to in the near future. I got my butt whooped. I mean i went 5 days without seeing a buck bigger than a forky… You start second guessing your decisions when you’ve been hitting it hard...

    What cartridge should I use?

If you’re going to thread the 6arc barrel I wouldn’t cut it down any more than 18” and I’d consider shooting something like a 90gr eld-x loaded by Druid Hill (assuming you don’t reload)… Speed kills. I’d go either arc or 22 creed 20”. Take your pick

    Blind Texas DIY hog hunt?

Also, it’s probably too late in the summer to hunt bean fields but if by chance you found a bean field that isn’t 4ft tall you could find them coming to that in the evenings.

    Blind Texas DIY hog hunt?

Sounds tough. Not familiar with Tx public but I figure OK pigs like the same stuff. The thing with pigs a lot of times is they are in the thickest nastiest stuff they can find during daytime. However if I was going to try it I’d key in on waterholes with thick cover around it. There is always...
