Since I have had it from the time I was born, my body has sort of adjusted to it and I don't wear a lift. I should though. As I am getting older, I can feel my back and hips out of alignment and it hurts when I walk a lot. I have just bought the athletic inserts from a drug store and only used...
I have a 3/4" leg length discrepancy for my entire life. It hasn't caused many problems over the years but, as I have grown older, it starts to make my back hurt after long hikes while hunting. It would be best to consult your doctor and have a lift made for your boots.
I normally just go to Walmart near where you are hunting and buy a cheap $25 cooler. A deboned antelope will fit in 1 fairly small cooler. If the meat can be frozen, it will remain frozen until you arrive home. Just try to keep the cooler under 50 lbs to avoid overweight charges. It is, by far...
Keep at it and don't give up. It may take 10 hunts for the right opportunity to present itself but if you give up after going 9 times it will never happen.
Make sure you have tons of storage space. Large walk-in closets and preferably a walk up attic. We built a large jetted tub in the master bedroom which is almost never used. I would go with all walk-in showers and no tubs. There is no such thing as a garage that is too large.
Mine would be taking my son on his first hunt out west in Montana in November. He has been wanting to go with me for several years and we decided to buy him a mule deer hunt where I just tag along. He killed a nice muley buck on the first morning and he was tickled to death. It was worth every...
I know the jetstream is loved by many but I just don't think it is all that and I hardly ever wear mine. It is not very warm. I have a Kuiu Kenai that I like much better and have considered buying in a solid color for everyday use. It is lighter, warmer and more comfortable than the jetstream IMO.
I have a Savage 220 and Savage recommends the Accutips. I experimented with several types of slugs and came to the conclusion that I should have listened to the factory as it definitely shoots the Accutips the best. Slug guns are known to be very finicky as to which slug shoots the best from one...
The meat is no problem with bringing it back on the plane in coolers. The antlers will probably be tough to put on a plane. I would recommend finding the closest processor and having them ship the horns on a courier. There are companies who will deliver meat and horns cross country. It would be...
I have a 529 college savings plan for my two kids. It will come in handy in a few years when they go to college. I also opened each of them a mutual fund when they were very young. I add a little to it each year. My intention is for this money to be used as a down payment one day for their first...
Way overkill on the overthinking part of all this. The fact is that it is very possible that one, two or all of your kids may not even like to hunt. Or they might all like to. No way of telling at this age. The important part for kids is that they have fun. Their attention span is going to be...
I have a hard time trying to understand how so many people cannot understand scent and how it relates to a deer and what the deer smells. People go out and buy all of this stuff to spray on their clothes as if it will make them disappear to a deer's nose. The least thing a deer smells is your...
The whole scent control craze is what baffles me the most. I admit that I bought into part of it 25 years ago but now realize it is nothing more than a gimmick. It is a huge scam that makes millions per year from naive hunters.
Just the opposite experience with the Furnace. I would probably not wear it if I was hiking a lot. Most of my hunts are stationary either for deer or ducks. I love fleece and wear it almost every day during the winter for work. The Furnace is my mid-layer and it is warmer than any fleece and it...
First Lite Furnace is what I use as a mid-layer. It is incredibly warm and I use it all the time throughout the year. It is probably my favorite piece. I wear it on cool Sept mornings during archery elk season, hunting whitetails at home and it is perfect for duck hunting as well.
Exact same scenario for me too. I never killed a deer with my 410 but finally did with a 20 gauge. Hooked ever since but my passion has morphed a little over the years. I love nothing better than to be out west every Sept. I'd trade a week in the Rockies chasing elk for the entire deer season...
I have some Sitka, more Kuiu and only one piece from First Lite. It is the Furnace 3/4 zip top and it is probably my favorite piece of hunting clothing that I own. It is incredibly warm and the perfect mid-layer. I seldom leave home without it during cold weather.
The airlines don't seem to care about bows or crossbows at all. I fly with a Ravin crossbow inside a hard sided suitcase and tell them there is a crossbow inside. They normally say ok and do nothing different than normal luggage. No locks required.
