The Missions are much stiffer. Much more "boot" than the Kestrels. I really like them both but very different. The Kestrels feel like hightop trail running shoes with great grip. The Missions feel stiffer than the Beartooths (for me).
I rotated between the Beartooths, Kestrals, and Mission 2.0 boots (yes, I like Schnees boots). The Kestrels have about 3 fulls seasons on them. Still look and feel great. The boots probably have 2 or 3 more seasons worth of use in them, if not more. They are real nice for dry desert hunts and...
How have the Mission v2's held up? I'm a big Schnees fan and am looking at these or the Crispi Colorado for an archery elk / Coues deer boot. I have the Kestrals and I love them but looking for a stiffer boot when things get steep. thanks!
Used the AD for my elk hunt a little. I liked it but really only used it a few times. Used it this weekend for a jr coues hunt. I still like it. The reverse knobs do take a little getting used to. I use an outdoorsman head and the combination seems to work. I have a dec coues rifle hunt I'm...
I rotate Kestrels and Beartooths to keep my feet fresh. I want to try the new Schnees Missions. They are a lower boot but are supposed to be fairly stiff. May be worth a look.
I just ordered the AD. Looking forward to seeing how it holds up to rocky, nasty coues deer country. I have had a number of different tripods but have never been able to keep one together more than 3 or so years.
Canyon Prospector 103 is a very good option. Like most I have a couple of Yetis and a RTIC. The canyon is as good or better than the others, just bigger. reason I picked the Prospector is because it is long but not real tall. Fits under my Diamondback bed cover.
I really like my QAD. I bought my MBG 3 pin slider a number of years ago and thought it was too busy. Pulled the middle pin out and made a 2 pin slider before they became popular. My 2 pins are set at 30 and 45. That covers me from 0-55 yards (closer to 60 with a bull elk). I always figured...
I have had the Crispy Valdres (liked them) and the Nevada (didn't fit my foot). I think the toe box is a little bigger in the Kestrels but similar to the Valdres. I hope that helps. I really like my Kestrels in southern AZ. They are light but the leather holds up to all the rock/cactus that...
Good luck to your son on his upcoming hunt! I hope he is able to put that knife to work. I have a Huntsman. you will love that knife. I just got my deep notch and I may like it more than my Huntsman. The weight, balance, and feel of all the Dawson knives I've touched have been awesome.
A lot of great suggestions here. I cut the hell out of my hand quartering up my deer this year. I had all the right stuff but had not checked it for a few years. The tape was all melted. compression bandage and duct tape did the trick. Just make sure you look through your first aid kit...
For anyone looking at getting a new knife...I received an email from Dawson knives a few days ago advertising 25% off all their knives with a code. I'm not sure they would want me to post the code but I'm pretty confident with a phone call they would give you the code. I have a magaCut...
