    Sako vs Tikka

Had a Tikka T3 in .30-06. Great gun, shot and carried well. Sold it and have a a Sako Finnlight 85 in .300wm. I have not a single regret. Both are very accurate. Both are reliable. I bought the Sako on here used and feel like I got a good deal on it. For me, that definitely plays into how much...

    DC 827 First Time

I needed this reminder to finish my story about our trip for DC827, so thanks! A buddy and I flew in this year and had a great hunt. Doubled up and had a brutal pack back to the airstrip. I’ll finish my story and post it into the Caribou forum this week. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Gunfighters Inc Kenai sticking

I used a blow dryer to work mine into a little better shape for my revolver. Took about 5 minutes, just be careful not to overdo it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Kimber Hunter in 6.5 Creedmoor - Let the Project Begin!

I have a Leupold VX-II on mine and it fits the light weight theme pretty well. I would be very comfortable shooting out to 300 with that scope. My buddy picked up a fixed 6x Leupold (I think it is an FX-III or something like that). I looked through it and it’s pretty nice. For a small rifle...

    New cooking stove advice.

I have and use the Pocket Rocket Deluxe with the piezo ignitor. Adjustable heat/intensity and it works well. I cook almost exclusively in the vestibule of the tent so wind isn't a big issue (for midday coffee, it works to use my pack as a wind block). I like the stove. I like the use of the...

Kimber Hunter in 6.5 Creedmoor - Let the Project Begin!

@BigWoods, thanks! @KyleR1985, it's the lightest gun I own, and I shoot it like a light gun. When I am on my game, it likes Nosler 140 gr BT and can shoot them .75-1 MOA. If I am not on my game, groups open up. I am learning to reload, so this winter I am working on making less expensive ammo...

Anyone Regret Modifying Their Kimber Rifle?

I like the smaller carrying size of cutting my Hunter in 7-08 down to 18.5”. I also took the gel out of the stock and painted the it too. I prefer it this way, but I bought it knowing I wanted to do it this way. You won’t go wrong one way or the other. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Most accurate budget rifle

I picked up a Savage Axis Youth model for my son/wife in .243 for $200 at a pawn shop. It does not care what I feed it, it is frustratingly accurate. I have much nicer rifles that also shoot well. But for a “accuracy at the lowest price” gun, that’s my vote. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Help picking boots

Do you typically run warm/have sweaty feet? I don’t use insulated boots for anything above freezing. Also, how often will you be backpack camping with temps below freezing for extended periods of time? If you’ll be out like that frequently, maybe two pairs of boots are in order. I’d recommend...

    kifaru lost park pants substitute?

I have Black Diamond Belay pants that I think are similar. I have the LP parka and the pants seems about equal insulation-wise. If you can find them on sale, even better. My buddy has the Mountain Hardwear Compressor pants and likes those too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Preoccupation with Inconsequential Increments

I was just reading this thinking, “This sounds like @hodgeman” As I spend more time on Rokslide, the more I see this same theme. A .5 MOA gun doesn’t make a difference in the hands of a 5 MOA shooter. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    2021 Gear Performance

Went well: I really liked moving to a wind shirt (Patagonia Houdini) and just a merino tee under it for moving. I stopped sweating through fleece or long sleeved layers when climbing, and it was nice to have a super light layer to shake off light rain or while busting brush. Kifaru Slick Bag 20...

Zamberlan boot purchase for Kodiak Blacktail

I had the Zamberlan 1012, which looks like the 1005, but an older version. I really liked those boots, they fit great and stayed waterproof for 4-5 seasons. I haven’t been to Kodiak, but live in Alaska and have had some wet seasons hiking on the tundra and in the mountains. Compared to the...

    .308 or 7mm-08

I really like my 7mm-08. Kimber Hunter, chopped to 18.5” Took out the stock gel. With a VX-II and three rounds, it’s 5 pounds, 10 ounces and a fun rifle to shoot. Though it takes all my attention to detail to keep it together. In the end, no animal will know the difference. Sent from my...

Convince me this Tikka build makes sense

Just shoot a great Tikka as is. I loved my T3 stainless .30-06. Killed absolutely everything I shot at. Bought a used Sako 85 Finnlight last year for $1050 on here. Put a VW3i on it, 8 pounds 3 ounces for the .300wm. Very shootable gun, and I wouldn’t want it any lighter. I also have had pretty...
