    SW Colorado Forage

Yeah that's what I figured. I wasn't worried about hunting pressure, I just saw 4 different bears in one week in that area a couple years ago.

    SW Colorado Forage

Okay that seems pretty reasonable. Unfortunately I'm probably only going to get 5 days dedicated to bears this year, hunting only long weekends. I've got some really good intel on where bears were this time of year in 2022 but it's a long hike in and I'm debating if I should go there or...

    SW Colorado Forage

How many days do you typically hunt before you kill a bear? Or anyone else that regularly bear hunts?

Beautiful bear! I think I'm going to try hunting high alpine next time I'm out.

    SW Colorado Forage

Good call on cooling before putting in the cooler. I plan on having a contractor bag at the truck to put it in before the cooler so it's not getting soaked in the ice water. That makes sense. The only hide I've packed out was my mountain goat which was fairly small and I was able to fit it in a...

    SW Colorado Forage

That makes sense. I suck at caping skulls out so I would definitely try to keep it all together. When packing the hide do you try to fold it skin in then roll it up? Sorry for all the questions, I've never killed a bear and I'm making it a goal to get it done this season since I have no other...

Are you just cutting through the tendons at the paws and leaving them attached? I assume you also just pop the skull off and leave it in the hide as well?

    SW Colorado Forage

Also more central west than south west but I was out last weekend looking for bears in the Roaring Fork Valley from 7400'-8400'. I talked to an archery hunter that saw one bear around 8000', found lots of sign but none of it look very fresh. Pretty much no acorns and some rosehips but not much...

The realization of field shooting ineffectiveness

I guess it depends where in SW Colorado it is. The only matches I've ever shot are local 3 gun and pistol so I'd be traveling a long way to probably be the worst shooter there haha. We do have a local long range match but I've never gone because it's PRS style.

The realization of field shooting ineffectiveness

I would definitely be interested in a match format like this, unfortunately I'm in the northern front range. Any one in this area interested in setting up something like this? I'd be happy to help with supplying targets and setting up but I don't know anything about the logistics of running a...

    Goruck Mowing?

I thought I was the only weirdo that did this! I don't do it every time I mow but I should, it doesn't really take me any longer to mow it's just harder. I use a 50 lb sand bag in my SO pack.

    Vehicles, you can fix?

My first gen Tundra is fairly easy to work on but I'm getting to the point where I'm willing to pay mechanics to do stuff beyond basic maintenance. I just replaced the power steering lines myself and the stress of my truck being down and the free time it took to change wasn't worth it.

    2024 Montana draw results

I drew my NR big game combo. In the group I applied with all 7 of us drew either general elk or big game combos (applied individually, not party app).

    Alaska Goat Hunt Boots

I think you will want something stiffer than the Lapponia. I've never hunted in AK but I have hunted mountain goats in CO and I wore a Crispi Dakota which is a 3 flex and I wouldn't want anything more flexible than that (if I did it again I would probably where something slightly stiffer).

    CO earlier and later seasons

I didn't have any issues with the weather during 2nd season but that will obviously vary by area and year. However, I did see a lot more goats during summer scouting (last weekend I scouted was the day before 1st season opened). I think I would go for 1st season next time just due to the number...

Unknown Munitions is a Tikka Dealer?

This is exactly what I'm hoping to do at some point, I don't really need a full Tikka build but would like some work done. Do you know if you can order a standard lite or stainless lite in 6.5 PRC? They're listed on Tikka's website but online and in store I've only been able to find it in the...

    What’s your ideal hunting truck?

I've always loved the T100. The only reason I bought my 1st gen Tundra instead was for the rear suicide doors.

    Mercy Kills - Legality?

I was hunting with my girlfriends step dad, who I found out is not a very ethical hunter (this was the only time I've hunted with him). He wounded a buck hitting it in the rear quarter crippling it pretty bad but he was still able to walk. We moved in to try to push the buck to him to finish it...

    Mercy Kills - Legality?

That's surprising, I've had the opposite experience in WI. We found a buck behaving strangely, not scared of humans in the middle of opening day of rifle season. This was a high CWD area so we called the DNR and they told us to shoot it and leave it. They came out a day or two later and picked...

OnGlass Adapter - light & effective digiscoping

No worries, I appreciate the input and helping set my expectations. I'm still planning to get one so no doom and gloom on my end.
