I sure wouldn't let the fact you don't have "good glass" stop you. People got by for a long time without glass.
I think too many people get hung up on getting "all the right gear" before going and doing something..... sure there can be minimum tools to start, but that doesn't mean it's true for...
I think this is the wrong way to think about things. All firearms are dangerous. As the owner/user, it is up to you to learn how to properly handle whatever firearm you have. Relying on the mechanical safety devices is asking for trouble.
It's not the gun's fault for this discharge.... not one...
A non CNS hit will alow a deer to do what it wants for a limited time. I've tracked a couple of whitetails after a double lung behind the shoulder hit with .308. .30-06, .30-30.... some go 100 yards. Some drop right there, one ran up to me to expire.
That was a really good thread and has really reshaped my expectations on caliber performance.... pictures and actual experiences, quite helpful.

I find this interesting. It used to be true here, but anything with 4x4 holds stupid value. 25k for a 4 year old Tacoma with 120k on the clock. 10k for a ten year old Z71 with 150-200k on the clock. Etc.
I'm very mechanically inclined and started looking for a used truck, but there really...
Oh to add a little something else. I think people get too hung up on what grit stones to use. Anyone more interested in just having a sharp knife to cut up game would be fine with just a 300ish grit stone. A good balance between fixing edges and getting stuff sharp. That and a strop would be...
The worksharp is a pretty good setup, but you really need to watch the video on how to use it on their site. Some of the details are important.
Instead of the Lansky, I like the DMT Aligner which is more or less the same thing, but I like the DMT diamond stones better.
In the field, I...
These are my cherry picked targets. I have some more that I need to photo. And my fliers are just me. I really found I needed to work on my shooting and concentration when shooting. I need too shoot more. I probably will when I can get home for a bit.
If you can take your rifle and put 10 rounds in a pattern that is about an inch at 100 yards on demand, you can reliably make adjustments for your trajectory, the round can ethically kill at the range.... that's all you need.
I hunt in the woods entirely (logging lease). Not many 100 yard shots. 20-30 yards is normal. Last season I had the 6x and I had the same concerns. Turns out, it was pretty easy to use.
