OTC Cow Elk tags, what r my options?

You can buy OTC either sex tags in CO for Rifle or Archery hunting. If you would get just a cow tag there are less OTC units available to hunt in so either sex may be the way to go. Colorado also has "hunt planners" that you can call and they will give you all the info you need to get started...

    Map Scouting?

Does the direction of the terrain matter? Ex; would a Southern facing basin be better to check than a Northern facing one?

    Map Scouting?

Hey guys, I was wondering how everyone does their "map scouting." At the moment I normally just get on google maps and look for thick timber and aspen grooves that are a ways away from the any roads. Bugle Report 2014

Definitely not a stupid question. I've heard the odd bugle in first, normally at night but I wouldn't be shocked if you heard one at first light. I'll only bring cow calls in rifle but maybe you can get a response off a contact bugle or something. Good luck, let us know how it goes!

    Books on tactics or suggestions

Been reading "North American Elk Ecology and Management." It's not much for exact hunting tactics but has more information on their behavior than any other book I've read. Incredibly thorough and informative! Just understanding the animals a little more gave me a few new ideas I've be trying...

    Bugle Report 2014

Was out in north west CO for the last four days. Had cows and bulls come in silent to both cow calls and one or two early morning bugles. Bunch of bugles at night during the full moon. Seems like things should be heating up soon for Northern CO.
