Bear Defense Sidearm for Small Hands

I actually do struggle with non-Glock grip angles so it's something for me to keep in mind. I always present my wife's S&W EZ low, same with a Sig 220 legion I looked at. Sounds like my best option may be to keep using the G45 with hardcast. I have considered picking up a G22 .40 cal and using...

Bear Defense Sidearm for Small Hands

Yeah unfortunately the Gen 4 and 5 are the same dimensions as the Gen 3 SF frame. I’ve never actually seen a G29 in person. Haven’t really thought about the G29 since it is the same “girth” as the G20. Is the FN a smaller grip than the Glock? And I do like the way the Sig feels in the hand but...

Bear Defense Sidearm for Small Hands

Definitely considering some 1911’s. Looking at the Ruger SR1911 and Springfield Ronan Operator, both in 10mm. Also considering bumping the budget up for a Dan Wesson Razorback if I did go the 1911 route. I’m not a huge fan of the knack thumb safety since I’ve gotten used to Glock but I may just...

Bear Defense Sidearm for Small Hands

I keep trying to tell myself that but the thought of a large grizz charging makes me second guess carrying a 9. Still, I agree I’d rather a 9 I can hit with than a 10 I can’t hit with.

Bear Defense Sidearm for Small Hands

I’ll be honest, I’m just sketched out picturing a 800 lb grizz charging me. I used to think I would just take my G45 and run the hardcast but once I actually made the plan to hunt in grizz country I instantly felt the need for something that packs more punch. May be all in my head though.

    FNG from AL

I forgot to post and introduce so doing so now. Grew up in central MS hunting some mixes of public and private land. Settled in Randolph County AL after college but have lived in and briefly hunted in some public land in Wisconsin. Love squirrel hunting with or without dogs, avid white-tail...

Bear Defense Sidearm for Small Hands

I know the "which gun for bear defense" has been beat to death, but I am hoping some folks that have smaller hands can chime in. I am in need of a sidearm to carry while in grizzly country. I looked into the Glock 20 as I shoot GSSF competitions with a G45 and carry a G43x and generally really...

    App/Website/Tool for Weather in Backcountry

What apps/wesbites/ tools is everyone using to watch weather in backcountry? More specifically, how would I go about studying historic average temps and weather for areas that are not cities? I am starting to plan for a Spring 2025 bear hunt in Idaho. The unit/area I am planning on going to is...

Idaho Black Bear Tags Explained - NR

Okay that makes sense. So if someone is just interested in hunting bear spot'n'stalk and is not too picky on location, general is probably fine. If you want something a little more specific, say dogs in a specific time and place, controlled may be the only option.

Idaho Black Bear Tags Explained - NR

Gotcha. What about the general tags? Why apply for controlled if they are good for most units, all year, and you can buy them pretty much whenever? I guess I am concerned I am misunderstanding something in the tag system.

Idaho Black Bear Tags Explained - NR

New to Rokslide and hunting outside of the SE US. Have decided to begin planning a black bear hunt in Idaho. I was originally planning on applying for a controlled hunt on Dec.1 of this year but started seeing reduced tags and what looks like general OTC tags. I have not been able to find a...
