My pleasure; hope you found it useful.
Yeah, I guess Meopta is one of the relatively-few players in the game who manufacture their own products instead of contracting out production to someone else's facility, and they've been making optics since 1933. If a scope works, it works, but all...
Don't believe everything you read. Bigger exit pupils have a lot of advantages, but what they are not is a direct measure of brightness.
You have to take into account that the human pupil can only dilate so far, and that a large EP through crappy dim optics isn't necessarily going to give a...
Nice choice.
Similarly, I have the Leupold VX-Freedom 3-9x33 AO and the Meopta Optika5 2-10x42 PA, and I prefer the Meopta in every way except weight, which is still reasonable for what it is. (Also, that 33 mm Leupold is about as light as it gets for a half-decent scope.)
The Optika6 is...
As others have mentioned, these both seem less than optimal for a hunting rifle.
12X or even 10X at the top end will get you out to 1K just fine for target shooting, and I bet you'd be a lot happier with the advantages in hunting situations that lower magnification ranges give, such as a wider...
I was recently looking for good compact 1"-tube glass for my 10/22 Takedown. I ended up with a scope that not only checks pretty much every box for that use, but that I'd also be happy with on even a big-game rifle: the Meopta 2-10x42 PA. There's not a lot of material out there about this scope...
I was recently looking for a new scope to replace one with a fairly cramped FoV, and I've been blown away by how much Meopta's Optika5 and Optika6 lines get you for the money. I ended up with a 2-10x42 PA that I intended for .22 use because of its compact size and adjustable parallax, but it's...
@General RE LEE
Yes — ED refers to a specific thing, but HD seems to be a marketing term without any defined standard.
Regardless, the glass Zeiss uses in their V4 line is decent in my experience.
@General RE LEE
Cool, thanks. From that article, it seems like there’s no accepted definition and it’s just a thing some companies label their fancier products with.
No.
The V4 is Zeiss’ entry-level range. They have a discontinued line called HD5 that was roughly comparable.
There’s also the HT range, which is their top of the line and completely separate from the Conquest scopes.
@Tod osier
Yeah good point about reversing two-piece receiver bases. And using a screw as a recoil stop is a good idea; even if the rings don’t slip, it gives a consistent return position after the scope is detached.
@Ronb
Which bottom metal is that, and how do you like it compared to the original polymer? It looks good.
@Britt-dog
Black permanent marker will easily fix that.
But that's not inherent to one-piece mounts; it's also true of two-piece rings that use the drilled-and-tapped receiver mounts, no? Now if we're talking about receiver-top vs. dovetail mounting, then it's a different story of course. I agree that dovetail mounting is preferable, but there's no...
I looked at all the available options and went with Sportsmatch rings. Tikka receivers have a great integrated rail, so it seems silly not to use it.
Strong, light, adjustable, detachable; what’s not to like?
Here in Norway where hunting after sunset is legal, light transmission is king. It seems that the top hunting scope is the Zeiss Victory HT series because they have the brightest/clearest glass on the market, plus the weight and size are reasonable considering their optical performance.
The...
For sure! Looks like the images in my first post aren’t loading reliably, so here’s another try and a look closer up.
And the clearance seems to be about 4.5 mm using hex bits as a go/no-go gauge. Pretty happy with that, even if a few mm tighter to the barrel might look slightly nicer...
Hey all, new guy here.
This thread keeps coming up at the top of Google's results when searching for "Tikka T3x scope mount", so I just wanted to add my experience with different rings for 50- and 56-mm scopes. Hope you don't mind the thread resurrection.
Anyway, I bought a rifle that came...
