Hannibal, Good on you for seeing a need and focusing the enthusiasm of newbies towards a goal in a "manageable" way. I am a lifelong hunter but I am hunting bear for the first time. I agree with other posters that Spring Bear brings new challenges where NOT all of the western hunting...
I appreciate your insight. Having scouted hells canyon before I think there’s some cross over with Western MT. I have a SW Idaho tag for bear, and I was offered a loaner .338 ultra mag for spring bear. It will extend my range (325yards with a .308) to 400 yards. Do you think that’s valuable? I...
Billy Goat I appreciate it. I’m planning to take one trip every other week (approx) to the bow range to paper it just to make sure I don’t have drift in the first 500 shots. I have a range at home, but getting out and changing the lighting, Noise, and targets has proven useful in the past.

Rear quarters, separate the head, see if you can get the front shoulders uphill (preferably over that lip) and then see what the chest is looking like. The lung blood can tell...
Been hunting 22 this week and we haven't heard ANYTHING! Got a shot at a lone spike that didn't call back, didn't come to calls. Nothin. We braved the snow and rain the last two days and hoping it heats up this week. There hasn't been nearly the hunting pressure there was last year, but the...
