I've only read the initial post, not the 14 pages that followed, so maybe this has been covered already, but this will vary by arrow setup, speed, bow tune, and broadhead design. You shouldn't lump all fixed heads together or all mechanical heads together. Labradar showed the following for...
Yes on the blade swap question, no on more single bevel models this year at least, and 5/16" is the ferrule diameter. You could shoot our XWide150 crossbow heads if you want the 11/32 diameter (.344). They are the same except for the ferrule diameter.
Use a heat gun set at 350F to install the hot melt and it won't discolor the Impact Collars. You can pick one up at most any hardward store for $20-$40. You are probably putting too much heat into the collar if it is getting discolored and that will change the strength a bit since these are...
The wide solids are a favorite of many of my trad friends so I think they would work well for both of your set ups. You can swap those blades, but the wide solid blades weigh 25 grains more that the S series or Single Bevel blades. We just implemented a better system for tracking all customer...
Zac, the vanes I use are all about 0.6" high and around 2" long. Shorter, longer vanes like the Max Stealth can work well also, but I've found three 0.6" high vanes to be the most efficient in stabilizing broadheads with minimum weight and drag. Four max stealth work well and is a very popular...
I've shot a bunch of hogs and whitetails with our 150 grain Wide Solid broadhead. I think it's hard to beat for those animals. You typically just need to touch up the two long front edges or you can also buy replacement blades.
My current setup is three AAE Max Hunter vanes at 2.5 degrees helical. I've tested and hunted a lot with Blazer, Max Hunter, and Fusion II vanes at 2.5 to 3 degrees offset or helical and had great results with our broadheads.
99 yard follow up shot on my mountain goat two years ago. The first shot was 70 yards broadside and hit where I wanted, a couple inches in front of the crease, so he only had seconds left to live. He ran back to the edge of the cliff at 99 yards and looked back at me. I ranged, dialed, drew...
Structurally, it is fine to remove the bleeder blades. It will weight 10 grains less. I've tested them this way and I don't see any problems. I know a couple guys did this for Cape buffalo before we came out with our no-bleeder option. Personally, I would leave the bleeder in place unless...
Hey Guys! Great to be sponsoring another Cold Bow Challenge.
Once again, I'm shooting 100 yards and a caribou size vitals. (I don't plan to shoot an animal this far but want this to be my effective range in case a follow up shot is needed.)
I'm shooting an 18" target, so want my shots to hit...
We did start shipping pre-orders in mid March in the order that they were received. We had way more pre-orders than expected, over five times, so it is taking longer than expected to work through them. We are building these and shipping them daily as fast as we can. Good hunting!
We get very few rust complaints, but Oregon coast seems to be particularly hard on steels. Most guys can just dry them off at night after after hunting in the rain and be fine. I recommend reapplying mineral oil after a rainy hunt and we make a dispensing pen for easy application. As...
I tune by bow with the quiver off, since this is how I'm going to shoot long distance. Then I just check to make sure broadheads are hitting good with the quiver on our to 60 yards. I would tune you bow the way you plan to hunt with it.
This will vary by user. I've been able to completely skin, quarter, and debone an elk and then a deer with one before needing to resharpen, but I would say the average user will typically get through one elk no problem. To me, A2 tool steel at 60 HRC hardness has excellent edge retention and...
The deer was standing perfectly broadside and I aimed for the top of the heart, but the deer ducked and turned into the arrow at the shot. Our new single bevel with bleeder created a square hole on entrance and broke the shoulder bone in two right by the knuckle, The double lung shot passed...
Most of the guys I know leave it on, but I use a removable quiver and take it off for longer shots. Generally, if I'm shooting over 50 yards I can take a couple extra seconds to range the animal and pull off the quiver. I'd rather not have the wind pushing on it and the extra weight of the...
I appreciate the feedback on this. We buy the epoxy prepackaged from Easton, so it's not cheap and we don't make any money on it. If we include it with every set of HIT inserts or collars, we would need to add $3 to those prices. I didn't want to do that, since a lot of guys already have...
I can take a photo later, but a Deep Six broadhead has a shank 0.3 inches long before the threads start. The Snyder Core system has a shank that is 1.0 inch long before the threads start.
