I’ve had good results with the EV2 pattern. It’s shines late season and on bare trees, I’ve had deer look straight through me in close quarters. It’s not my favorite looking pattern to my eye but that’s irrelevant to me if it works.
If it’s that thick, I’m shooting them directly in the shoulder with a corelokt. I use to go for neck shots in thick cover, but too much can go wrong with it imo. Last thing I want is a deer wounded running around unable to eat and drink or complications doing so.

Jacketed hollow points in a 44 mag caliber served me well as a youth. As I grew older my father moved me to several different calibers and Remington core lokt soft points did really well for me.
I was raised with that never sell a gun mindset. With that said, I hold onto ones that are sentimental and have been passed through the family. Guns I’ve purchased personally, if they’re not being used or serve a purpose, they gotta go!
I use shock collar while training on the lowest setting possible. Something as simple as an ear twitch. Just enough to cause discomfort and always lead with vibrate. Usually tone/vibrate is all I have to do after being conditioned. As previously mentioned, I don’t want my dogs fearing my hands.
