I was on a second rifle hunt in Colorado and ended up shooting a buck that was mostly in velvet. I scraped it off and was left with the white colored antlers.
Is it important to get that blood stain out of them? Would you stain them with a commercial product or just leave them white?
I hunted it last year during 2nd rifle. It has alot of open terrain. Imagine a parade of diesel Rams patrolling the sage, separated by a couple hundred yards, looking to spin a turret on anything stupid enough to step out of a washout.
The one area that is walk in only will have at least one...
I went with a canvas spike tent from the Wall Tent Shop. It has a sewn in floor and screen windows and doors. With a wood stove it's comfortable all four seasons. I prefer it to a camper because I can fit everything I need for a trip into a truck bed and I don't have to deal with towing a...
Check out Federal Hydroshok reduced recoil slugs. I've used these and won't go back to a full recoil slugs...I just don't see the need because they both shoot clean through everything and the reduced recoil slugs feel like a high brass bird shot.
There really isn't an animal in North America that a 12 guage slug won't kill inside 100 yards. The thing starts out a larger diameter than any rifle round will expand to.. when they mushroom and flatten out they are easily punching a 1" hole. There used to be a company called Light field that...
Thank you to everyone who replied with advice. I was successful harvesting a buck. He's not the largest but he would be representative of what the area biologist advised me would be present in that area during this time of year.
I have the Leupold alpine scope. I would say that it's no good beyond 35x magnification at the most, under ideal conditions. The quality of glass just isn't there. I picked it up because I got a great deal on it. I wouldn't want to glass with it for any period of time. My thought with it was...
No I did not. My setup is the 30-06 model and it's wearing a Leupold VX Freedom 3x9x40mm tube. I would consider this setup to be a 1 MOA to 3/4MOA gun with the handloads I'm using.
One thing that really helps out the process when you are grinding is making sure your meat cubes and fat are cold. Put them in the freezer, you don't need to freeze them solid but get them firm. They will grind alot better.
Butcher shops are the best sources for scrap beef and pork fat. In...
Is there a feature on some application or OnX that shows that information? So this area here is just for illustrative purposes, I'm not necessarily trying to hunt here or put any area on blast...
Would it be possible to travel between these two red dots along what shows up as a two track? Is...
I'm e scouting a new area for this fall and I was curious if anyone had a way to determine if a two track that leaves a main highway and crosses through a mix of BLM and private land is publicly accessible to drive on to access the BLM parcels
Thanks for the assistance
Hey guys,
Would any of you mind giving a greenhorn some tips on what terrain features, vegetation to key in on when scouting for sagebrush country deer. Are creek beds important in this terrain?
Thanks in advance for the advice

Searching online I see that Tractor Supply company has 40lb bags of "nut" size coal? Do you know of any suppliers of the "lump" size that you're talking about?
I'm thinking about trying coal in the wall tent wood stove this year and I was wondering if anyone had some tips regarding coal burning like
What size coal
Where can it be found for sale
How much coal do you burn in a night, weight wise
How much coal do you load into the stove at once
Thank...
