Take both with you. Hunt with the one you prefer but if you drop one or have some other issue with it you always have the other. 165 gn bullets for the 06 should work great or 150 gn if you go to copper bullets.
MTRaine,
I love the idea of the conservative approach to taking only larger bulls. But I'm 70 now and have 6 elk hunts under my belt and never taken an Elk. I love to elk hunt but I'm not a great Elk hunter apparently. I don't know how many seasons I have left to Elk hunt so I will probably...
My thinking is that if you are already a biker and used to riding trails it could be a no brainer to hunt using a bike.
But to just take up bike riding trails to aid in hunting might not be the best idea. Like most things there is a skill set to learn with taking up mountain biking. There are...
Does anyone use a diaphragm call that uses dentures? With my upper denture in I guess you could say I have a artificial palate. Would it be best to remove the upper denture when using a diaphragm call?
Wow, this post has been around the world and back. Starting out it looked like some saw the virus as a hoax or something taken way too seriously. Even the president indicated in the beginning it would go away quickly. But it didn't. With states opening up it's worse now than ever. Hopefully...
Being older at 70, I've got a little shaky. So my very max range is 50 yrds but I'd like to keep it 40 and under if possible at game. Being retired, I practice nearly every day. I don't shoot a lot of times a day. Lately only about 20 shots. I started out early in the year only able to pull...
That appears to be your best option. You can't worry about what others might or might not do but you already know what should work best for you and your son.
What your used too using is often what will work best for you. In the field I'm used to using a hand held GPS. I have a I phone with onx also but I better trust my handheld Garmin GPS. I have the Montana onx chip in it. My phone battery generally craps out if it gets cold out so I almost have...
Being that I drew a general Montana Elk combo tag, I'll be hunting archery in Montana. If I fail at getting a Elk during archery if I'm not worn out by Rifle season I will try with a Rifle but would much more like to take one with a bow this year. After that I hope to hunt deer in my home...
Not sure I have this all straight but you say you bought a preference point last year and got a tag so you burned that point since you drew a tag. So if you buy a preference point this year (if not too late) but don't hunt and buy one next year when you apply for your combo you will have 2...
Sekora, The above info is true. However you can still apply for a Bonus point for next year if you purchase before September. Also bonus points don't expire till you draw a tag. So you could buy a bonus point for the next few years before actually investing in a Elk combo tag if a LE tag is...
WOW- Sounds like one of those trips where if it could go wrong, it did go wrong and then some.
When it's all said and done though you can't buy memories like that!
I'm not one that could offer you a equal trade hunt. I'm part curious and would in part like to see you or anyone else find success in some small way. Are you looking for a Elk hunt this year or in the near future? This years draw in many states is past but there are still some OTC tags out...
Your hunt offer appears pretty generous. From the sound of it, seems like a guaranteed successful hunt assuming nothing crazy happens. Hopefully some experienced elk hunter can return the favor and at least get you in position for a shot.
True on the adjustment. The flatops are pretty high in elevation. Some adjust quickly, some not so much. It's not all about fitness either. The OP might want to read the recent altitude thread.
I'm wondering the same? I have to assume they would work assuming we are talking about those battery operated machines that make O2. I saw a used one somewhere and was thinking they might be useful for a guide service. I know mountain climbers that do the rally high peaks sometimes carry...
I wish I had an answer for that as I have experienced the same issues like you especially above 10K ft, My personal answer is to avoid sleeping at 10k ft. It's not always possible but possibly sleeping a couple days at 7K feet might help? I do know that even in my older age I gradually adjust...
