Thank you Maverick. Intend to try a 130 gr or 135. See what happens at the target and run the ballistics thru JBM. If it doesn't work out...a little time and a few $ lost. 150 gr not a bad fall back position either for under 400 / 500 yards. Again...thanks.
Just my humble opinion..........
Indeed blessed - I've already killed my share of BG.
Maybe a bit unrealistically at times - I "personally" have always made DRT a very high priority in my choice of a bullet. DRT guaranteed? Of course not. Yes - today's mono BG bullets are indeed better. And...
HHTR.....yes, the other cartridges would be better Coyote choices. Just not my choice for owning 1 "all around" rifle.
Jack.....you're right. Good sense says stay with a tried and true 150 gr c&c with a good BC. I just thought a lighter Varmint bullet might / maybe ??? do a bit better -...
Greetings. Yes, I am aware that the 1 cartridge for everything has been discussed too many times. That said, helmet on, here goes...
Now 78 y/o with a lot of good hunting behind me. All my rifles but 2 are gone. My old Winchester 22 stays. I thought long and hard on which "do everything" rifle...
Hey...
Anyone have any hands-on experience with this particular "new" rifle? Accuracy? Functioning? Handling?
Someone - maybe here? - posted his problems with his 2020 PRC and unsatisfactory SA customer service. Others had the same issues and spoke of poor cs. A few people responded with how...
Magtech,
If I want to learn what I "need to do" I'll ask my wife. As I'm still learning, the good folks here have responded with genuiely helpful and respectful suggestions to my questions all over this site. I'm appreciative and have said so. Try not being the exception.
Fudd'ly Yours,
D Lee
Not sure where to post this, so here I am. If a Moderator chooses to move it, please do. Thanks.
Slow learner here…just passing my epiphanies along, should you be among the unaware in my small group.
In my defense, I’m old school and my shooting beliefs reveal that. Not all wrong mind you, but...
Sorry sdupontjr...I have no idea. The more experienced reloaders on here may?
With the 155 TMKs, Varget was filling the case with my loads. Accuracy OK and primers looked OK but I'm not going to push it. Don't want to put the TMKs back on the shelf just yet. Built a Manual load with RL 15...see...
Bevo,
Duly noted. Thanks.
I've been immersed in rifles and cartridges for a VERY long time. This is my first .308 so I'm learning as I go. Being cautious with my reloads. 44.0 gr Varget with the 168 TMK in this rifle will drive tacks. Happy with that. All the other reloading is for comparison...
h1,
Worth knowing. Thanks. 46.0 gr Varget - COAL @ 2.800 - was my last and BEST load tested. 5 rounds - 1 moa - best it could do. NOT a bad showing mind you.......may very well test that load again in an outside temp below 98 degrees where I don't have to see thru my sweat. :)
Cheers.
Late to the party here.....
An old curmudgeon, I spent too many years chasing after FASTER bullets, more powah!! Times have changed. My 2020 Waypoint .308 is now my "do all" rifle. Having now learned that a PROPERLY PLACED 95 gr .243 bullet will CLEANLY kill an Elk, I now know my 308 with good...
Hey Vern...
IMHO...your post should be cast in stone for all to read. Especially the last sentence. I will approach future range visits / load testing with a new mindset...more objectively...fewer expectations.
Thank you kindly.
L-O-N-G (disappointing) afternoon at the range today with the 155's. Extremely Hot & Humid. Took my time between rounds making sure the barrel cooled. Careful behind the trigger, every round. Got settled...made sure. Staying inside the Sierra Manual recommendations...Varget with 4 loads. 3...
180ls1 & Charlie.......well said and 100% correct. Thank You both.
While I don't "need" the little bit of extra speed out'a the 155 gr, I thought for Deer it might / maybe (??) have some advantage. And, I have a lot of faith in the TMK bullet for its accuracy and terminal performance in this...
True Paco. While I have TREMDOUS faith in this rifle - the .308 cartridge wasn't blessed with much "extra" speed. Since this is for Deer only - thought I might add a few FPS and maybe a bit more expansion to go along with the speed gain??
Thanks.
Cheers.
In my Waypoint Carbon .308 Win - 168 gr TMKs shoot 1 ragged hole. Typically DRT on GA deer.
Have purchased a box of 155 gr. Anyone have any experience with this lighter TMK - 308 or 30-06?
Thanks.
