One of the last pheasant hunts with my old dog, Clark. Sadly he passed a few months after this photo. We sure had a good day afield to remember though.
About ten years ago, I bought this 375 H&H Ruger Number One used, along with dies, components and some loaded ammo. It's just a honey to shoot! I've only shot black bear with it, carried it for elk, with no shot opportunity. Nice rifle - it went to Africa with a prior owner and took several...
Take your time. Don't rush it. Be safe.
And enjoy. All of you. I'd not be in any hurry, he's only three. You have much time.
My sons grew up shooting, both still do. One hunts, one doesn't. We shot 22's together a lot. They were always around guns. I don't remember for sure when they took...
Ha! I had to resist! That's such a great price, and I really like the 6x SWFA scope that I already have. Then I thought about my rifles... And I didn't need another scope! Ah well. Thought about buying it anyway, at that price...
It's funny - twenty years ago I think this list would have been dominated by magnum revolvers, now there's an awful lot of semi-autos, especially 10mm Glocks. That's not a bad thing, just an evolution.
2.5" 357 magnum, S&W Model 19 with 158 gr LSWC, or 158 gr JSP handloads. It's cerakoted, because I bought it used, pitted, about 20 years ago. It's been on a lot of hunting, hiking, & fishing trips.
Am particularly pleased with this photo. It was not easy. The heron was quite suspicious of mankind. So... I set out in my kayak on the mighty Columbia River. I paddled past the heron at some distance. He watched but did not flee. Then a mile or so above him, I turned and drifted... Only gently...
Highly unlikely, but I'll keep trying. Thousands of hunters apply for the tags, which are "once in a lifetime" and points creep keeps moving the bar higher. Only one ram a year can be taken from this particular herd, and other herds are similarly managed. So... I content myself with hunting them...
Ya, I'd stick with the rifle you know, your 300 mag, and tougher bullets like the Nosler Partition, Accubond, or the Barnes. I used my 30-06 with 200 gr Nosler Partitions on an 8' Brooks Range grizzly a couple of years ago. After a long stalk, all the shooting happened at 40 yards and in. There...
