Not as close or clear as I would have liked, but it's been a while since I managed an eagle photo. Birds in flight have proven tough for me. I'm working on it.
When I first held a Rem 700 CDL, I loved the thinner, lighter stock. It just felt great to me. So, I got one in a favorite cartridge, the 25-06. Topped it with a 6x Leupold and put it to work on coyotes, pronghorn and mule deer. :)
Liked it so much that a few years later I got one in 30-06...
Seared the elk roast in a hot skillet with butter, garlic, onion, salt, pepper, thyme and rosemary. After searing it, all of that and a bit of red wine went into a zip lock bag and into the sous vide immersion cooker. Trying 130 degrees for four hours...
The house smells so good after...
Yes - am interested in seeing how that all plays out. Have a couple of friends who live and hunt BC, and they were running into grizzlies fairly frequently in the past. I suspect that within a few years, they'll be running into the big bears more often...
Bear populations need to be managed...
I do almost all my hunting with 6x Leupold scopes. Sometimes a modest powered variable like a 2-7 or 1.5-5x.
Seems to work out real well for me. Have taken mule deer at 400 yards with a fixed 6x, coyotes past that. Up close hasn't been a problem either. I like the excellent clarity...
Washington has over the counter bear tags. Season opens August 1st.
It's all spot & stalk, though some have had success with predator calls as well. Some good bears here.

Hey guys - I know some of you have bird dogs for hunting upland game or ducks.
How concerned are you about wild predators attacking your dog while hunting, and what do you do to prevent it?
I hunt a lot of wild country, not much in farmland. Like yesterday, Mav was hunting off leash...
My son and I took the dog and our shotguns for a little walk today. We found five roosters, but only brought home four. One got up at an odd angle, my son missed two shots, and he would have been in my line of fire, so I never even shouldered my shotgun. Good day though, we enjoyed!
Here's the...
Love all the father-son photos. My sons both accompanied me on many trips afield when they were young. They're 33 and 28 now, and we still head afield together. I feel real good about that. You're doing this right. :)
Starline recently introduced 30-06 brass to their lineup. My buddy Gavin Gear takes a hard look at it in this article & video:

I do most of my hunting with a 30-06 Remington 700 and a 6x Leupold scope. Reasonably light, accurate, setup. It carries easy and has been 100% reliable. Sometimes I'll hunt with a different rifle just for the heck of it, but I've used it on black bear, antelope, elk, mule deer, wolf and grizzly...
New German Wirehaired Pointer, "Maverick" on his first pheasant hunt, just last month. He did well, we're working on it. What a pleasure he is to own and hunt with though. He's just like a little kid, SO EXCITED about everything:
Coolest elk hunt I did was 19 years ago, with a fellow who had horses and mules. We horse-packed nine miles into the wilderness, set up camp at about 9,000' and hunted from our wall tent. Pretty doggone nice hunting experience, and I managed to take a good 6x6 bull about a mile from camp. That...
