    First bear hunt, questions!

Ya, even though the range may be short, bears are often shot at last light and a good scope is a big help. Guy

    168 or 178 Eld-m in the .30-06?

Loaded the 178 gr ELD-X in my 30-06 with Ramshot Hunter. Muzzle velocity was 2790 fps. Accuracy was excellent. I zeroed the rifle at 200 yards and took it on a cow elk hunt in Oregon. Long stalk followed by a 405 yard shot in a stiff crosswind. The shot broke her foreleg, then penetrated the...

    Pronghorn caliber

Buddy of mine uses his iron-sight Marlin 30-30... That kinda blows me away, but he loves that rifle and uses it well. I usually rely on my 25-06 or 30-06 Rem 700 CDL's. They're awfully fun to hunt, and taste great. :) Regards, Guy

2020 mule deer & Ruger Number One

Not a huge buck, but crippled up with foot & leg injuries as I am this year, this one will do. A single handloaded 160 grain Sierra Game King at 3050 fps from the 7mm Rem Mag did the job. Sadly I pulled the shot a few inches to the rear instead of tucking it right behind the shoulder as...

30-30 Winchester and Goats: Another Cartridge Question

Personally, for that once-in-a-lifetime hunt, I'd likely use my 30-06 with the 6x Leupold, because it's been awfully good to me. But... I have a lot of respect for the 30-30, and occasionally hunt with mine, an old Glenfield, by Marlin. Folks tag goats with archery gear... I suspect that you...
