The bino harness is a good idea and even a pocket if you have a piece of BCY looped around your belt loop and then hook the release onto it for extra security (if it has a closed jaw like the SX3...a hook would not work).
Then, you just fire the release as you pull it out of your pocket.
If I was just starting out and was not hunting elk with a heavy quiver/arrow hanging on the side, I probably wouldn't get a sidebar (depending on the bow).
With that said, the grunt package is a really great place to start and it can't hurt to have it. Can always play with it and just a small...
Personally (and I am shooting a VERY similar setup) I would increase the weight of the HIT insert on arrow #2 by 50 grains or so and check if you are ok on the spine. Try to get 500 to 530 or so and just stay above 260fps (and below 285fps)
Hopefully this won't be an option for long. More and more units are moving to draw only. Also, Colorado applications from non-residents is exploding. Another 40,000 more applications (all species) this season. 10,000 more for just Elk.
Brendan,
Good info, thank you. A couple things for me personally:
I shoot a fixed blade broadhead (IW S100) and I ordered my arrows pre-cut from Lancaster as I don't yet have a arrow saw. Buddy down the street has a nice setup, so we will trim down if the broadhead fits within the riser with...
Thanks Brendan. I ordered up stuff to build 6 arrows and will give it a try. Like I said, 300 gives me better FOC (18.9%) while getting to my target arrow weight of just under 520g.
As mentioned, I used the Black Eagle FOCUS system last season with 27.5" of carbon. That gives me total arrow...
I deleted this post from another thread that I thought was done, but then felt like I was stealing the thread. This one looks older and more on point.
So....250 or 300 Rampage?
65lbs Elite Kure maxed. 80% letoff setting, 29" draw
250 arrow build would be as follows:
29.5" of carbon
10g...
If your local shop sucks, get a cutter or buy arrows from Lancaster and have them cut them. Then build yourself. Closest shop to me is 3hrs...so have to do that.
I ended up ordering a Kure, even though they didn't come out with a longer ATA. After playing with it a bit, I actually don't mind the 32" ATA. The riser is the same length, actually a little longer then my 34.75" bow it is replacing...so it actually doesn't feel any shorter.
My DL is 28.5"...
I used a truball beast for years and then switched to a Wiseguy last season. I ended up with some tendon soreness, and am trying out a Stan SX3 this season. So far, I have really liked it and I don't think I will be going back to a trigger.
I feel like I can anchor more consistently with a...
Another vote for the Spot Hogg Wise Guy. I liked the version with the nylon strap connection, but it is also available with a bar.
I went from a Beast to it last year and it was great. It took a bit for me the break in the leather, but it fires really nice. It is also small and compact and I...
I am personally a proponent of a front and side bar setup. The front bars make for good handles when carrying bow on your shoulder. A tight spot with 4 530g arrows is almost 14 ounces hanging off the side of your bow.
I find the lighter the bar section of the stabilizer the better. You can...
