Long Range Hunting: Hold Over Reticle, Dial or Both?

I never said "everyone else is wrong." I said dialing isn't better for everyone (the other posters are the ones insisting they are right) and that people should try both ways to determine which is best for them. I did say that the dials people purchase with yardage are dumb unless they are...

Long Range Hunting: Hold Over Reticle, Dial or Both?

I have not seen a single piece of data from anyone. Where is the listing of shooters and their times? Just a claim that they have seen many "world champions" that have a hard time using a tree.

Long Range Hunting: Hold Over Reticle, Dial or Both?

Out of curiosity, are you dialing with a turret that is marked in yardage, or MIL/MOA? Side note....as someone that has been shooting a bow for 30 plus years...a single pin disgust me and you made my argument for me as it relates to your decision making ability. (unless you are a...

Long Range Hunting: Hold Over Reticle, Dial or Both?

My observation is with a tree and proper dope chart, dialing the scope is an extra step that typically de-stabilizes the gun when you take your hands off your anchors. Shooters then are fidgeting and re-adjusting every time when moving between targets at different distances. This becomes even...

Long Range Hunting: Hold Over Reticle, Dial or Both?

Sounds like you are timing a lot of slow mental processors, and that is certainly fine, not all people have the same mental capacity, may have been english majors in college, etc. If you can't move your reticle up a fraction of a millimeter faster than you can turn a knob...I can't help you.

Long Range Hunting: Hold Over Reticle, Dial or Both?

That is a reasonable conclusion, but I would suggest that if people practiced with a FFP scope with a tree, they would be faster, especially under pressure. I totally agree with the premise that trying to use a second plane scope in the same manner and "memorizing" the power level that certain...

Long Range Hunting: Hold Over Reticle, Dial or Both?

Just to be clear....you are saying because it is faster/more better for you, everyone should do the same?

    Gunwerks Bipod Review

Thanks. It feels a bit like Bipods are a dying bread for many of us western hunters, but I would still like to have one available that easily goes on and off a picatinny without any other adapters left on the rifle.

    Experience with RRS Tripod Setups

I like the idea of the 22i, but not sure it would be good for hunting. I am 5'11" and am considering the TFCT-33. One less leg to deal with feels beneficial.

I can't figure out why the all Ti version is so much heavier then the AL/Ti version.

(Another) 280AI Western Hunting Rifle Build (prefit)

Thanks for the input. I was worried about losing to much velocity by going to shorter barrel. My thought process was that in the elk woods, I would carry it with just a thread protector. In the sage flats for deer and lope, it won't matter as much if I throw a can on. I hear you on the...

(Another) 280AI Western Hunting Rifle Build (prefit)

Found a good deal through Sportsman's Warehouse for the Trijicon Tenmile HX 3-18x44 First Focal Plane. $1350 with free shipping. Seems like a good deal and the scope has received great reviews....so I pulled the trigger on it. Nice thing about the scope....while I am planning on putting a...

Trijicon Tenmile 3-18x44mm Field Eval Q&A

Thanks. I have a Trijicon Accupoint 3-9 on my hunting AR (300 HAM'R) and really like it. How smooth is the magnification adjustment on the HX? If there is one thing I hate, it is a hard to turn scope.

Trijicon Tenmile 3-18x44mm Field Eval Q&A

Does the elevation knob lock at all? If not, are the detents for the adjustment just stiff enough to keep it from moving? How well does it stay zero when hiking, etc. Would you say this scope is worthy to be put on a high end rifle instead of say a Zeiss? Thanks

(Another) 280AI Western Hunting Rifle Build (prefit)

Everyone likes when their buddy gets a new gun...even more so when he is building. This will be my first prefit build. Hoping the collective can provide some feedback and I will provide updates along the way through first hunt fall of 2023. So far, this is where I am leaning: 280 Ackley...

    Prefit setups

I have started looking at this....I don't like how a lot of the actions don't have any coating or finish on them. Any thoughts on the Terminus Kratos Lite for a 7mm mag? Proof barrel, triggertech diamond, and Manners MCS - LRH. Who makes the best bottom metal?

    Mark V Backcountry 2.0 Ti

Really wish they did the 280AI with the carbon barrel. As mentioned, probably worth the extra weight in the woods to have the SS action.
