    30-06 for everything????

Plain truth is that a 30-06 will do it all assuming you can handle the recoil. If you can't handle it well your gonna screw up aa lot and blame everything but the shooter. worst recoiling rifle I ever fired was a 30-06, much worse than even my old 338 Mag. I'd bet not much in North America...

    Which rifle for black bear?

Either one will cut the mustard! For myself I wouldn't choose either set up. I'll never fire a magnum again, just don't care for recoil! And the 270 is certainly more than adequate but just never been a big 270 fan. Not a thing wrong with it though. Used a 30-06 hunting about four or five years...

    Predator Rifles! Let's See Them!

I seldom ever go predator hunting. Have shot coyote's with my old 308, an old 7mm Rem Mag, 7x57, 6.5x06, 25-06, and a 243. They all have something in common, place the bullet right and the coyote dies! I some times think about getting another 222 Rem but I don't hunt varmints that much either...

    bullet selection for mountain goat

Somehow I see the saying, "ability to soak up lead", as an excuse for bad shooting. While true some animals have tuffer hide than some others, they can take only so much and sooner or later are gonna fall down. In the early 1800's some people shot them with black powder cartridges. Seems to me...

Help me to choose a bullet

Only bullet's I have ever hunted with more than one kill are 180gr Hornady SP in my 30-06 and 160gr Speer Hot Core in a 7mm mag and a 140gr Hornady SP in my 6.5x06. I am fully aware there are other bullets that have everything these two have except one thing, my confidence! My next hunting trips...

    Excessive pressure from primer switch

Should tell you in your manual when ever you differ from the components given back up a certain percentage and start over. I change to any primer I want I simply back up a few grains of powder and start over watching for pressure. I use data for one brand of bullet out of another makers manual...

Reloading pressure sign help? CA 300 wsm

Wrong! Those cratered primer's are probably caused by a loose firing pin hole in the bolt! If that was pressure the primer would be flat all the way across!

    Excessive pressure?

I would not call those primer's flat, other's would. See the ring around them where they meat the case, way to much pressure will push the primer flat to that edge. Pay attention to what the manual is telling you and stick to it till you learn a lot more. I do load over the manual sometimes but...

    First hunting rifle considerations

I didn't say anything about scopes but I'm a lower power shooter. My favorite all time scope for hunting is an very old Redfield 2 3/4x I got brand new about 1970, still works great today on my 30-06. But I think maybe it I was to have one rifle I would have a 2-7x on it. 7x will give you more...

    First hunting rifle considerations

It's just a start for you, you might like it and might not. Only a couple rifles I'd suggest either a entry level Savage or a Mossberg Patriot. I know both can be had in 308 and I'd think also 6.5 Creedmoor. If you could get them in the Creedmoore, that's the way I'd go. ya got the rest of your...

    High Cascades

I keep thinking one of these days I'm gonna go hunt black bears again, but not in Oregon! I lived in Montana three years in the service and the bears I've seen up there were all over all the time! Got back to Oregon and have lived here over 60 years and haven't seen five of them. Lived two years...

    Western Black Bear Hunting

Used to hunt bears in Montana, Alaska and Oregon. Lived in Alaska about two years and never saw a bear out hunting up there. Lived here in Oregon most my life and I haven't seem two bears since coming back from Montana. In Montana seeing them was almost a daily occurrence! If I wanted to go hunt...

    Blue Loctite Alternative??

Only ever used loctite on one scope and to get them off to put on a new scope I had to take the gun to a gunsmith! That's when I found out not to use red locktite! fact is after that I have never used locktite at all and no problems!

    Ammo for Moose Hunting???

If I could afford to hunt a moose, I can't, I'd take one of two rifles and loads. either my 30-06 with 180gr Hornady SP's or my 6.5x55 with 140gr Speer HC's. Well maybe. Just got my 260 put together and really liking it with 140gr Speer HC's. Primary going in would be the 30-06!

6 Creed vs. 6.5 Creed for Rokslide Spec.?

For big game my though is the 6,5 blows any 6mm out of the water with better selection of bullet's. My 6.5x06 is on a 700 Rem Action and magazine is long enough I had it chambered so I could seat the 140gr bullet to the junction of the neck and shoulder.

    280 AI and Hornady ELD X 175 or 180 gr M

Years ago I shot a 7mm Rem Mag and found the best bullet for me was the 160gr Speer HC. Heavier bullet's upped the recoil to much and didn't do a lot more. Lighter bullet's got torn up with the velocity. Had a 760 in 280 at the time but never fooled with it a lot, I much prefer bolt action guns...
