What’s your go to Sitka product?

Traverse full zip jacket. Super warm and very breathable. Surprisingly water resistant. Put a down jacket under it and if I cant stay warm like that at any temp I've encountered, its time to go warm up inside.

    The perfect tripod

It was actually one recommend in a tripod thread on here. LS-324C+LH-40. ITs my favorite cause its the only one I've touched. But I am a lands urveyor so my experience with tripod stablility is going on over 20 years!

    College vs skilled trades.

I say both. Timing is everything. College was cheaper when I went and I became a surveyor right out of college which has nothing to do with my degree. Didnt "need" my degree for the first ten years, but moving up the chain it is definitely a good thing to have. I was expected to go to...

SW Montana experience, and Little Belt Hunter Numbers

Just go down into White Sulphur first week of rifle and wait along the road where all the trucks are parked. You will see elk in a shooting gallery. My advice is get the combo tag as we saw mule deer everywhere we went last year during rifle. Once you dial in on some mule deer the elk are...

    The perfect tripod

I just got a Leofoto this week. Super sturdy and attaches to the arca rail on my XLR. Holds rock solid in all positions. Haven't shot with it yet, but already can see how stable it is. Was expecting some weakness holding the rifle with no support, but locks super tight. RRS is the gold...

    PRS/Hunting pack?

Can usually find used Mystery Ranch packs in the classified that look as if they were never used. I use my metcalf for hauling stuff around for shooting and it can be overkill depending on what I'm taking, but I never feel overloaded or like the pack is flimsy.

    Is the 6.5-284 dead?

I saw one in a ad from Cabelas or some other outdoor store a few years ago. Could have been a misprint of course.

HPG Recon Kit Bag w/ Bino Pouch vs other bino harness

I went for this setup and I am less than thrilled about it. In theory it should be awesome but it just isn't. I still think the kit bag is the best piece of kit I own, but the additional bino pouch sticks out and isn't all that stable. Seems to pull on everything and make the whole setup...

    Is the 6.5-284 dead?

Still looking for a factory Tikka in said caliber. Saw one a year ago and can’t find any at all.

Where does the dog go in your truck?

Toyota sequoia has way more room than a 4Runner. WE have 2 little dogs and 2 kids, one in a carseat. The 4Runner was a little cramped if you were going on a overnight trip. Moved up to the Sequoia and haven't looked back. Gets 18mpg on the highway, one less than the 4runner. If you can find...

Weird Question…. I have a lazy eye, Spotter vs Binos

I will say that I am super comfortable spotting with my Vortex Razor Rangefinder braced on my knee if sitting. Its magnification is close to 8x binos. If you need to sit for hours looking across a valley, the spotter should be the way to go. I did buy some binos but haven't had them on a hunt...

Weird Question…. I have a lazy eye, Spotter vs Binos

I’ve got a lazy eye also that was treated when I was a small child. I don’t like binos. I never feel like i can quickly get dialed in with the binos and that’s because one eye is weaker than the other I’m guessing. I would go for a spotter. You will have less eye fatigue if you keep both...

    Show Some Good Will

Was sighting in my rifle outside of Helena last rifle season, 6" of snow on the ground. After we got dialed in, we decided to drive up to a spot and walk before it got dark. There was a truck already in the spot and and someone got out as we approached. he flagged us down and we pulled over...

Non Compete at Work-Any of you guys had to fight?

Had a friend whos wife was a doctor who signed one and couldnt fight it. Had to work outside the radius specified in the clause for two years. Also depends on the state you live in. A hour long session with a employment lawyer could be worth more than you will pay for it. May not hold up in...

    Vortex LHT - FFP?

Oh I know about that one. It’s just the Vortex is usually cheaper and I’ve had decent luck with the PST series and I’m a buyer of used scopes on top of that. If money was no issue, that’s what I would have. One day I will just sell all my mid range scopes and just get one amazing one. That...

    Vortex LHT - FFP?

Man, if it just came in 2.5x on the low range. Still a sweet piece, but not enough to get rid of the ol Bushnell 6500.

    Everyone ready for lockdown 2.0?

I've been exposed (that I know of) twice in the last year. These were several 3 hour close proximity encounters and I've always tested negative in the four tests I've had. I was racked with a fever a month ago and went and got tested-negative. I will probably have to get the vaccine due to a...
