Caliber Crystal Ball - Can you predict the future?

The cool thing on subs is they can lose almost no velocity with distance. Thus performance is the same at 10 yards or 200. I would like to see the 8.6 compared to a 500g+ 45-70.

    Weather Station ideas?

I would look at the tempest system. It’s all non contact, so no moving parts to wear out. even on the Davis unit I have never made the rain gauge work correctly. If I didnt have a functional unit I would be upgrading.

    Weather Station ideas?

I had one of the cheaper ones that was about $100. Anemometer lasted about 2 years. Replaced it with a Davis, better quality and went longer between battery changes. There is one that’s vortex based instead of an anemometer https://shop.tempest.earth/?ref=YHgyuMNh-XXN3l. I have not used it...

Caliber Crystal Ball - Can you predict the future?

Like I said it depends. The sierra blitz kings are supposed to do 350k without exploding. 300k seems to be a common limit. Also people say barrel length effects the rpm. Longer barrels have more issues. Seems heat from friction lowers the rpm. I guess my point was you can’t just push...

Caliber Crystal Ball - Can you predict the future?

It’s around 300k rpm for lead/copper. Some faster, some slower. With that limit, a 7 twist can’t go much faster than 3000 fps. To calculate, 300,000 x twist /720= fps. Practically that means the long for caliber 6 and 25 cal, high BC bullets can’t be run at 4000 fps. Either twist is too...

Caliber Crystal Ball - Can you predict the future?

A while ago I would have agreed on the fast twist, but recently started to work on a fast twist 25-06 and realized, there is a hard limit for bullet rpm depending on materials. This means you can’t keep fast twist and go faster velocity without limits. Start running around 4000fps and twist...

Pressure: when is too much and why?

What happens when pressure is too high? Provided your brass or primers doesn’t fail as a pressure relief, the steel may fail eventually in the rifle. Could be barrel, could be on the bolt. Also steel has a force vs number of cycles curve that has a knee. Big enough force and you dont even...

7mm Rem Mag vs the new age

There isn’t any performance of the prc/creedmore‘s that can’t be matched by either faster twist or custom chambers of existing cartridges. The only real difference is you can go buy heavy for caliber, high bc loads as factory ammo and/or rifles to shoot them. That’s the advantage and for...

25 Caliber Cartridge with cartridge head stamped brass?

just need someone with a laser marker. I would start by calling local trophy shops. They either laser or engrave metal all the time.

    Suppressor wait times

since the atf considers a silencer an arm, pretty sure it covered by the second amendment.

25 Caliber Cartridge with cartridge head stamped brass?

Wouldn’t be too hard to remove the current stamp and laser a new stamp on it. Wouldn’t want to do 100, but 20 should not take long. I expect a local trophy shop should have a laser engraver. My last job had one, easy to engrave anything metal.

    Has anyone ordered from blackhorn209powder.com?

209 was going for stupid money. Probably a decent scam.

    Suppressor question?

Poi doesn’t seem to change by taking on/off the suppressor and putting it back on. Do it all the time as my cases are not all long enough for the complete rifle. poi change is huge between using the can and not. For me that means I have to sight in with the can and again without. A pain...

    Baltimore Bridge Collapse

Accident. If it was deliberate it would have been done at 7 or 8 am, not 1:30 am. while tragic, the loss of life is fairly small for a major bridge completely collapsing. as mentioned above, I bet the smoke was from trying to slow down or restarting. Not sure about a container ship, but...

    Silencerco Scythe TI review

AB has a video on how the 375 works on smaller bores. It’s not bad. I have a 375 and like it, but I have only used it on 35 cal rifles. I am considering adding a 30 cal 8 stack To my collection for my smaller bore rifles.

    Colorado Springs

As a springs area resident from 97-21, I am glad I don’t live there anymore. Colorado used to be a great place, not so much anymore. Homeless population tripled due to legal pot, gun rights are gone, traffic is bad (springs is better than Denver, but not good), roads suck. It was getting to...

    45-70 elk bullets

I have not run them much past 1100. I wanted a sub load for suppressed use. The 500’s had plenty on penetration at 1050. For deer I am going to step down to the 400’s. on a deer they left two holes and broke ribs on the way out. The 400’s I could spot shots, the 500’s were a bit too much to...

    45-70 elk bullets

Try some of the maker 400’s Or 500’s. Great BC and open 100 fps slower than the Hornady.

    300 blackout subs for deer?

I would look at maker. waiting for them to do a 35 cal sub.

    Hearing aids

Couple things, as you go years without hearing frequencies you lose the ability to hear them. Your brain forgets that sound. this often leads to hearing aids being less effective. People wait too long to get them and then it’s too late. second, your brain ages and it’s the filter than...
