I'm looking at several walk-in only trails. Generally in the 1-4 mile (one way) range. Worried I might still just be following someone up the trail. If that doesn't work out might just hike off trail in the same areas.
That's crazy people are out there already. You think they're prepping for rifle season or are they archery / muzzleloader? I guess it could be people who are just camping - not hunting.
I'm looking at foot trails. Something someone would hike or backpack on.
Yeah, that's what I was worried about. Some have trailheads, some don't, but they probably draw people in either way.
Ok cool. I'll probably go up a day or two early as well. Seems like a lot of people come in at the last minute.
Interesting. Sounds like elevation isn't always the best indicator. I've heard people say to aim for 5000-6000, but when the area goes up to 11,000 who knows.
True. I'm not sure how fast it drops off. I'm looking at some areas as high as 8000'. Maybe that's too high for mule deer, but though I'd start there and work down. Not sure where the snow line is (or if there is snow yet).
Good to know there's lots of spots. Not too picky, just want to make sure I can find something. I'm hoping to get away from Boise a bit, not sure if that'll help.
Sounds like there are record license sales this year. Still a ways out but weather is showing 70s-80s. Not what I'm used to in...
Does anybody know what the camping situation is like in this unit? Curious if there are places to pull off and camp all along the roads or if it's tough to find a spot.
How far out on trails do you typically see people? I'm eying a 4+ mile trail (each way). Seems like most people wouldn't be walking 8 miles - but maybe you have to get off the trails too.
I hear a lot of people stick to the roads in this unit. Are trails pretty packed too? I've seen some 4+ mile trails that look interesting, but wondering if those are just as packed.
Ended up getting a couple antlerless draw tags in our group. Looking at the harvest statistics, I'm curious how many people pass on does early hoping for a buck and end up with nothing. I'd be happy with a doe this year.
Hoping to hunt Idaho with my Grandpa this year. He's been hunting Washington his whole life, but since I started hunting with him several years ago I've never even seen a buck. Would be happy to get a small buck or even a doe if we can get a tag. Just looking for a good experience with him...
