What caliber would you start a hunter with?

6.8 Western. It's got the reach of the 6.5's and the power of the 30cals.

Why is the Canadian model far less friendly to Non-Resident hunters compared to the US?

It sounds like many States are becoming more restrictive and moving closer to the "Canadian Model" but in general, the availability of affordable cross-State hunting is still far more prevalent than interprovincial.

Why is the Canadian model far less friendly to Non-Resident hunters compared to the US?

The high paying American client would be coming anyway. I get why an international non-resident hunter would be required to pay for an outfitter, just as I would if I hunted in a different country. The point I'm trying to make is that as a Canadian, I should be able to apply for any game in any...

Why is the Canadian model far less friendly to Non-Resident hunters compared to the US?

Yeah that seems to be one of the exceptions that some of the Provinces offer, hunting with a local "host" hunter for certain game. It doesn't appear to apply to goat, sheep, brown bear etc.

Why is the Canadian model far less friendly to Non-Resident hunters compared to the US?

I don't actually know. I've only looked into Alaska and everything I was seeing said I required a guide.

With the ever increasing price of a North American Sheep hunt, where are the best values internationally?

Ibex hunts in Asia seem to be great value for money, how many here have hunted one?

Why is the Canadian model far less friendly to Non-Resident hunters compared to the US?

I hate Trudeau as much as the next guy but as far as I can tell this has always been the rules.

Why is the Canadian model far less friendly to Non-Resident hunters compared to the US?

I've noticed that it's not uncommon for American hunters to apply for and build points across multiple states for DIY hunts, something that is near impossible to do north of the border without a Guide/Outfitter. This makes it easy to build a "hunting plan" which can drastically increase your...

What should be my next cartridge?

Just bought a 6.8 Western (Model 70), going to be my new sheep/goat rifle.

    Solotude- NZ tahr and chamois

I'm guessing you can't bring the meat home from these hunts, what about the rest of the animal?

With the ever increasing price of a North American Sheep hunt, where are the best values internationally?

Haha not at all. From the pictures I have seen the ranges you hunt NZ Tahr and Chamois in will be higher elevation than what is found in Spain, and and Central Europe. A European Alpine Ibex or Mouflon hunt is also high up on my list.

With the ever increasing price of a North American Sheep hunt, where are the best values internationally?

Anyone here that's taken a Marco Polo? Looks like those hunts cost about the same as a Dall's Sheep hunt, if not less.

With the ever increasing price of a North American Sheep hunt, where are the best values internationally?

Well I am looking to make this trip happen for 2026 and have narrowed it down to New Zealand (Tahr & Chamois) and Europe (Mouflon & Ibex). Both will be guided, I'm leaning towards NZ for a true mountain hunt experience.

Best value for the dollar game animals and regions to hunt?

Not necessarily, I'm thinking big adventure on a small budget. But number of game harvested/dollar spent is also a consideration.

Best value for the dollar game animals and regions to hunt?

Curious where you think the best value hunts are to be had, whether it's a specific game animal here at home or another country abroad, where are the best deals? My initial thoughts are any African Safari where you can hunt a half dozen plains game (or more) in South Africa for less than the...

    The Capra World Slam.

Thanks for the clarification regarding Bulgaria and Croatia. I just checked the official Capra World Slam checklist and it looks like the Kri-Kri hybrid does not count towards the Slam. I think I'll stick to NZ for the Tahr hunt experience.

    The Capra World Slam.

That is impressive! As someone who has already hunted many of these, which hunts stood out the most to you? Would you recommend some over others? Any that you didn't enjoy as much? If one were to be limited to 12 hunts, would you still recommend hunting all 4 of the Spanish Ibex? Curious to...

    The Capra World Slam.

Yeah it does seem really cool. So just trying to envision a plan here for the 12, I could do. 1. North American Mountain Goat (Canada) 2. Beceite ibex (Spain) 3. Gredos ibex (Spain) 4. Southeastern Ibex (Spain) 5. Ronda Ibex (Spain) 6. Cantabrian Chamois (Spain) 7. Pyrenees Chamois (Spain) 8...

    The Capra World Slam.

How many here have completed the Capra World Slam? i.e. 12 Goat species. I have recently caught the mountain hunting bug (bad). Since I've started to research this topic, the astronomical prices of a North American sheep hunt had me looking into international destinations for Ovis species on...

With the ever increasing price of a North American Sheep hunt, where are the best values internationally?

How many here put in for the monthly GSCO hunt draws? Those slim odds might be the only chance many of us will get to hunt a North American sheep. I think I'm going to sign up.
