    Newfoundland gear suggestions

@Indyal thanks for the info. Our hunt will start on September 16th, are we on the right track preparing for temperature ranges from the 20's to 60's? I spoke with one other fellow who has hunted Newfoundland and he mentioned the wind as well, I will be using a recurve so I am going to set...

    Newfoundland gear suggestions

I've got my fingers crossed the border will be open for the upcoming September moose hunt. I would appreciate information from anyone that has been on a similar newfoundland hunt. What clothing would you recommend for a 5 day mid September hunt? Thanks

New Mexico first season archery rut elk hunt. Let’s chat

I actually switched my land owner tag to unit 13 because that's where they had been seeing several bug bulls, but 17 is literally on the other side of the highway from 13. Both units are massive. I passed on a couple smaller bulls early in the hunt but had failed stalks on around 6 giants...

    Suggestions for a hunt?

@Mr. October We're all about the meat. We'll be driving from South Carolina and even in September it's not unusual to see temps in the 90's in NC and SC, so I'm thinking about pulling an enclosed trailer on the trip with a couple chest freezers and a generator.

    Suggestions for a hunt?

@dtrkyman I think axis deer in Texas is a strong candidate for the contingency spot. That really must be some tasty meat to be held in such high regard.

    Suggestions for a hunt?

@Mr. October I will read the chronicle of your adventure, thanks for sharing. We are so looking forward to this hunt (my wife has been talking about hunting bull Winkle for over 10 years). I figured newfoundland would be the perfect place to give her a taste of it before dragging her to...

    Suggestions for a hunt?

@Rich M never even thought about travel insurance, I really need to look into that. I've really been concerned about sending the outfitter more money (I'm confident they are very reputable) because the bulk of their clientele comes from the US and if the border remains closed for another...

    Suggestions for a hunt?

I agree Texas might be about the only option. One of the really appealing things about newfoundland moose is my wife can use a rifle and I can bow hunt. I would appreciate any Texas ranch recommendations. Not interested in a "pen" hunt must be a large acreage operation. As far as aoudad...

Unpopular Opinion: I don't like Dave Ramsey

Do we pay cash for vehicles, absolutely. For over a decade I drove a 1991 civic and my wife drove a 2002 Taurus, both bought with cash. In 2015, we sold the civic and paid cash for a 2015 odyssey for my wife. At that point I started driving the Taurus and we let our investments grow. In...

Unpopular Opinion: I don't like Dave Ramsey

I like Dave Ramsey, don't agree with everything he says, particularly holding off contributing to a 401k or IRA until you have paid off everything but your home. When I was just starting my career back in the 90's I read The Millionaire Next Door and became obsessed with accumulating wealth...

    Suggestions for a hunt?

I can't believe I even have to think about this, but this is a crazy time we're in. My wife and I have a newfoundland moose hunt booked for September 2021; it's what she wanted for her birthday. Great wife right? Anyway, I'm getting concerned the canadian border will not be open . So I...

    X impact fletching

Problem solved. Had the jig set properly in the 90 degree selection, did not realize there is a bit of slop in the rotation and learned that each time I move on to the next vane I need to be certain the dial is turned completely to the stopping point. Once I did that it worked beautifully...

    X impact fletching

I'll bet I had a dumbass attack and I've got the thing set for 75/105. If I don't I am doing a heckuva job backasswarding my way into that configuration. Thanks for everyone's advice

    X impact fletching

@Zac thanks for the input. I was thinking about how sloppy the nock fit was in the jig, but I also thought if it was a sloppiness issue that the fletching spacing would not be so consistent albeit not congruent. I will check my settings. On a related note, does having the fletching spaced...

@Reburn the loop material I have is bcy 24. The release I hunt with is a truball short and sweet wrist rocket. I practice with a too sweet hinge

    Paper tuning

I prefer the John dudley d loop method. I probably made it sound like I intended to wrench the heck out of the d loop knots. In reality I was implying that I would take my time and carefully snug the knots as JD demonstrates. I also prefer using the bcy 3d to insure against the d loop...

    Paper tuning

@doncarpenter I'm going to go ahead and order a string but I think I'm ok using the stock string for a while. I believe the biggest problem with the peep is the crappy d loop installation they did when they initially set up the bow. Three things they did that I will do differently when I...
