That’s a pretty sweet set up... I do the same thing w my Lone Wolf. It feels great for about 10 minutes. Ha, then it’s all guts if you’re going uphill.
We just started a bit of this kind of hunting last year in PA as preparation for a western hunt. Looks like we’ll be doing it again locally with everything going on travel wise. I’m ready to roll, hardly even disappointed.
We'd probably consider camping at the truck, would prefer hiking in, but I could probably be talked into a few cold beers each night. We'd be using a tipi tent/stove combo... which ain't cheap... as I'm sure you know. I'd be worried about someone stealing it. Do you hear much about theft or...
None whatsoever. My google earth travels kinda led me there one day. I was looking for something remote (I think I was successful there, ha) I noticed how the access across the salmon river was pretty limited and I started poking around to the north... and then googling some of the landmarks...
For a solo hunter I would 100% recommend the new early muzzleloader season. The bears seem to be much more active (on food) in mid-October than during the rifle season just before Thanksgiving. Plus, with the appropriate tag, you can also take a doe during the same week. Youth and Seniors...
I just returned from Italy for work. The instant coffee was amazing... I took a picture of it just for the purpose of backcountry hunting. It was Nescafe Classic in a slender little single pack. I think I just found it on Amazon, and I think the reviews confirm that. Its definitely worth a...
VERY INTERESTED in this as well. I actually just posted a reply for the seek outside podcast. I recommended that they create a titanium cooking tray with 2" or so sides... something a tad larger than the stove top so that it nests with the collapsed stove and fits in the stove's bag. Braised...
I drove through the Shenandoah's last summer, forgot how great they were. I was actually thinking about a backcountry style hunt for deer and/or bear down there. Have you ever done that sort of thing in VA?
This is great advice, and thank you. We're still planning on doing the spring bear hunt as a mule deer scouting trip for the fall. Less because of looking for game and more to just see the country before its actually game time. I think there is value in simply knowing that we're able to cover...
I've got the Redcliff tent/stove combo and absolutely love it. I have a quick idea for a new product. Imagine a titanium tray (or another lightweight material) with 1-2" sides that was slightly larger than the stove lid. This way it could nest with the rest of the stove panels inside the bag...
