    Guide to First Elk Hunt

Hey guys, I’m new to the forum and so far, I am really enjoying the threads and articles. I have been interested in doing a diy backcountry elk hunt for years, and I’ve just now gotten to the point in my life where I can manage it. I am from Tennessee and I don’t have any contacts out West, nor...

    300 PRC Overkill?

Thanks guys, that’s what I was expecting. 15-30 grains shouldn’t make a huge difference. Are y’all running custom loads, or store bought ammo? I’d rather buy store bought ammo, just for the up front cost.

Sea to Summit Comfort Plus Self Inflating Sleep Pad

Reviews I have read rave about comfort. I’m looking for the most comfortable packable pad. Self inflating isn’t as important.

Sitka Kelvin Lite Down Jacket and Pant Review, By Tony Trietch

I bought a large in the kelvin lite last year. Large is typically what I wear. The length was good, but the arms and forearms were too tight. I returned and have yet to replace. It sounds like the new jacket is the same?

    What could he score?

115-120. 3-1/2. If he’s not in a heavily pressured area, I would let him walk. He would not be a shooter on my place, but everywhere is different. If he is a trophy to you, I suggest taking him.

    Boots boots, what boots

I have 3 pairs of danner high ground boots. To say I love them is an understatement. I have uninsulated, 400g, and 800g. I like a lightweight boot with good support. They feel like a pair of tennis shoes, but with better support. I read where one guy had issues with waterproofing. I have yet to...

Sea to Summit Comfort Plus Self Inflating Sleep Pad

Anyone running this sleep pad, or have you in the past? What are your thoughts? It is on the heavy side at 2lbs 2oz. Packed size is 7x11.25. Is it worth the added weight and size? Good sleep is a must for me. Thanks

2 man tent help. Kuiu or Stone Galcier

Following...I’m looking hard at the KUIU 2p tent as well. I haven’t read anything bad yet, and I’ve read a ton. Price is steep, but if it’s worth it, I’ll pay it.

    Bow Poundage

I shoot 72lb on my Hoyt. There is no doubt that I could pull 90lb, but I want to make sure I am making as little of movement as possible when pulling back my bow. I practice out of a chair pulling straight back, I don’t want to have to struggle to do so. If you are have to point your bow to the...

    300 PRC Overkill?

Hey guys, just curious if anyone is using the 300prc for deer or elk? I can see it being overkill for deer, but how about elk? And do you guys think it’s over kill for deer as well? I’m looking at making a new purchase and wanted your thoughts. At the end of the day, I want as much undamaged...

    Urinating while in a stand

Just my opinion, but I think it has an effect on deer. When you are hunting a spooky mature buck, everything has to be on point. There will be those days when an old mature buck is rutting and all senses are out the door, then they will not care at all. I personally carry a 32oz nalgene wide...
