I would suggest calling Kifaru, describing what type of hunting you do and ask their recomendation. I've been running the 44mag for 2 seasons now and I can't image a better pack for what I do. I had the Mountain Warrior before this which was basically a zippered duffle main bag. The 44mag has...
I absolutely love my 44mag for backpack hunts and my 14R for day hunts. But I also love to still hunt. The bomb proof fabric that Kifaru uses is pretty noisy when walking and climbing thru brush, trees... I'm sure this applies to the other high end packs that use nylon or cordura fabrics. I...
I wore the Guide Lite pants archery elk in Utah and loved them. Really lightweight and flexible. Daily temps. from 40 to 70F.
During rifle elk I wore the Corrugate Guide and Obsidian Foundry pants. Daily temps. 20 - 50F. The Obsidians are warmer and quieter but are not very water...
Most brown bear attacks are very sudden. If you are able to get a shot off it may be your only one. Shoot whatever you have and practice close range moving targets. We used to staple a piece of cardboard with a target dot to an old tire then roll the tire down a hill. It's very unlikely that...
I have a 6" S&W 629 and Double Tap bear loads but I feel a lot safer with my Benelli M2 12ga semi auto with short ghost ring sight barrel and 3" Brenneke black magic bear shells. It's light fast and lay down a bunch of heavy lead in a hurry. These shells have 3000 ftlbs of energy.
For still hunting in thick cover, bow hunting and stand hunting I like my EL 8x32s. The are smaller and lighter than the 42s. I can easily operate them with one hand. For medium range spotting I like the 10x42s but prefer to use them with a tripod or other rest to improve stability.
I have nice telescoping trekking poles that I use mostly for winter hiking and backpacking heavy. I used to always pack them on hunts but hated how noisy they are clinking on rocks... One day I left them at camp and had to hike down a really steep slope in the dark. on my way back. I found a...
I have illuminated (Z6i) and non-illuminated Z6s. For precision shooting and most hunting applications I prefer the non-illuminated. Where the illuminated ones really "shine" are stand or still hunting in low light and quick shots. My Z6i 1.7-10 is perfect for that. Note - the...
Awesome lightweight, compact binocs - perfect for still hunting and bow hunting. Tan color. Just bought this summer. Comes with box, manual and all Swaro accessories (neck strap, soft case, lens caps, cleaning kit...) I have confirmed with Swarovski that these are the latest configuration...
