doh, sorry I missed your question a while ago, @SBR Sarge
I could totally be wrong here, but from what I understand, a textured steel will sharpen (ie take some metal off your blade). I'm sure there are varying degrees depending on the aggressiveness and composition of the steel's texture...
ok, steel geeks, does anyone have strong opinions about particular whetstone brands/products?
I have some random 400/1000 grit whetstone from Amazon that has served me well so far, but I am looking to buy a high-grit whetstone (somewhere between 3000-8000) for the finer work/touchups. I could...
+100 on a honing (not sharpening) steel rod. Start with a good edge on your knives, touch up on the steel every 15 min or so, and you won’t have to resharpen for a long time. I keep a beater knife close by for anything where I’m really digging around joints/bone.

I know a hot tent is definitely superior for comfort and convenience which can be hard to come by in the mountains that time of year. It will work its way into my inventory, just not this year...
With upcoming plans to hunt 3rd season rifle (Nov 12-18) here in CO, I was wondering what tips/hacks people have for a more comfortable and efficient camp without a wall tent or tipi.
My plan is to sleep in my vehicle and move camp as needed depending on what we are seeing. I will be with two...
My experience is with an adult GSP that we've had now for several months. We went with the Mini Educator. Its functionality and interface is great. We use it for off leash hiking and dog parks. I haven't gotten into upland hunting yet, but I intend to use it for that as well. My one complaint...
It’s a lot of fun, and great for multiple applications. With a solid rest, good conditions, and some practice I feel comfortable taking a broadside shot on a whitetail out to 50yds with stock sights. I’ve only had the opportunity at 15 yards so far.
The two biggest drawbacks are the price of...
