I use the InReach Mini and OnX. I got OnX for 1 state (Idaho) for $20 on sale. Works great offline on my old Samsung Note 4. The Earthmate map is pretty primitive compared to OnX, but good enough for casual viewing. I think there is a way to ship waypoints from Earthmate, via kml, to OnX, but...
Nope, I guess I'm the contrarion. 8x is the sweet spot for "handiness". 10x is hard for most to hold steady off hand and 12x doesn't get any better.
If you want a spotter, buy a spotter.
If you are larger than a hobbit, a side-sleeper, and not trying to sleep lower than the 20's F, then a quilt is the best choice. IMHO.
You can sleep to about freezing without much experience. To about 20*f with some know how (a system). To 0*f with some serious gear and a system. Below zero...
