I tested 255gr Cast Performance WFN and 240gr XTP against back to back Elk knuckles. They penetrated and stayed together.
I also tested 240gr Oregon Trail SWC - they exited in pieces.
It is hard to do gel penetration tests as the WFN usually penetrate 5+ feet (from other testing I've seen).

And there is load data too.
I like 23.5gr of H110/W296 behind MBC's 240gr Keith for 1250fps from my 329.
Just a note: I get 2620fps with 23.2gr 8208 pushing a 77gr TMK out of a 16" barrel. COL = 2.26".

Thank you for filling in the missing information.
The problem was the Park Service - not Garmin. And you guys should've checked out the Park Service approach to emergency services before your trip.
How would the park service have handled a call from USMCC? (initiated by triggering the...
Bad logic.
How do you know the ResQLink works in the canyon? (Correct answer: you don't)
If I read your post correctly "it" (the 2nd mini), received a response to call the ranger station? That certainly doesn't make any sense as formerly GEOS is supposed to contact the appropriate SAR for your...
Lee Classic Turret - the best bang for the $. The LCT is a high quality turret press - just a better mousetrap. I craigslisted my RockChucker after using an LCT for a week.
In addition:
MTM 750gr digital scale, aaa batteries (~$30)
Lyman 60gr check weight set
Calipers (+/- .001")...
What horrible advice on this forum!
Skip the barrel replacement - you don't need it. Buy the 200/220gr lead WFN. Get enough to run a magazine through your pistol as a function check.
Be happy!
By the way, if the person spreading FUD about tumbling had checked, the issue was with 230gr fodder...
Look, I know I suffer from OFS*, but I don't understand why this is so hard to understand: if your bear comes back to you from 1/2 mile away after you made your shot - you screwed up.
I don't care about your long distance shooting theories, your mythical medical knowledge about bears living...
I have used a bunch of 1/2" AR500 8" rounds from https://shootingtargets7.com/?msclkid=2238ada0eb9b1353b35ecd168c734011&utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=BRAND&utm_term=shooting%20targets%207&utm_content=BRAND
I have them setup as described in the following...
Edited: I can't believe I didn't notice that this was a necro-thread. My apologies.....
I'm old school and I believe learning to shoot is more important than bullet worship.
If the cheap cup&core bullet gets you more trigger time - then I think it is the better bullet.
I have never seen an...
Listening to the podcast reinforced my belief that kids today are ignorant of what can go wrong when taking long shots.
That bear absorbed 3, maybe 4 hits, from a cartridge that chart readers say had plenty of zing at 470yds. Guess the bear didn't read the same material.
I wonder if the...
There are no reliable "pressure signs" with the 45-70 Marlin. So stick to published load data.
H4198 if you can find it. And definitely get ahold of the bullet manufacturer for load data. If you have a chronograph, stay at or below 2000fps for 300gr from an 18.5".
I've been loading for a guide...
I'm going to guess that the lube is what froze. The trigger doesn't have much leverage turning the cylinder - doesn't take much to bind it.
I carry mine in a top flap nylon holster from a company called AMS out in Colorado - about $25.
