    Pheasant green meat

Younger dog got a rooster today. When I say got, I mean she bit it in the bush and didnt flush. It ended up getting away and I shot it on the ground as it tried running from us. I wonder if it may have been wounded prior to us finding it because it never made an attempt to fly. Either way, the...

    Dog mouth size for pheasants

Thanks for the replys guys. I got her out again today and we limited on our 2 birds. She did a great job of using her nose to find them and flush them for me. She actually ended up flushing 6 in total. I also accidentally shot one as it was going over a group of trees and she managed to find it...

    Hunting dog hearing loss

Yep for sure. I also don't know if 140db would be accurate for dogs. However, I also don't know what else to put in there. I did do 120db as well because that is about 4x quieter.....

    Hunting dog hearing loss

Looks like we were typing at the same time. My post right after yours just put numbers to your hypothesis. It looks like the dog roughly needs to be 10 yards away if you're shooting over them.

    Hunting dog hearing loss

In case anyone reads this in the future. I made some assumptions to try and get a gut feeling for how far a dog needs to be away to be "hearing safe". Assumptions: 140db is hearing safe (osha human requirement for impact) Shotgun blast is ~160 decibels Dog is directly in front of gun and ears...

    Hunting dog hearing loss

Dang, this year is probably the most shots my dog will ever see and id be shocked if she had 100 shells.

    Hunting dog hearing loss

Has anyone developed a test to see if their dogs have lost hearing over the years? I don't hunt enough to really worry about killing my dogs ears. On the other hand, I do want to provide them the best life possible and at a minimum understand if any harm is happening to them. I also just got a...

    Dog mouth size for pheasants

Thanks guys. I think im going to order some roosters from a local hatchery and plant them to "stock" her hunt and then train her on picking them up after we bring them home.

    Dog mouth size for pheasants

So, this is likely to be a bunch of dumb questions. I've got a golden mix puppy (according to the pound). dna testing to be done later this year. She's 7.5 months old and weighs just 43lbs. She is by far the smallest dog I've ever had. My other goldens/golden mixes have all been 65-80lbs. She's...

    Norma Tip Strike Review

that's almost exactly why I got started on them. I figured if my rifle liked them then id shoot them for a season or two and reload the brass with copper bullets

I should also note that my SD's in all 3 rifles were single digits with the ammo over 5 rounds.

    Norma Tip Strike Review

Hello guys, I saw the Norma tip strike on shelves this year and thought I'd give it a shot for hunting. I haven't found any reviews so below are my results in .308 win and 6.5 creed. Summary is that it's been great for me in 3 rifles and had good performance on game but some calibers have an...

    Caldwell carbon fiber bipod

Gotcha, not ideal but I also don't usually apply preload. Probably still not worth it if that is the case though.

    Caldwell carbon fiber bipod

Anyone use any of the caldwell carbon fiber accumax bipod? Decent or complete crap? I was in search of a taller Harris style bipod and saw the caldwell accumax 13-30" model at scheels. I know it lacks some features in comparison to the tricer rp but for half the price it got me interested.

    Ultra Cushioned Running Shoes

I'm not a huge runner but I try and run every day. Currently at 473 miles for the year so far. I thought I needed cushion shoes as a runner because I'm heavier (225-235 lbs) but I realized the cushion actually made my running worse. It encouraged me to run slower (heavier shoes and less rebound)...

    Best "One Rifle" Caliber?

Call me crazy but I vote .270. I used to be a big .30-06 guy. My main rifle is a .308. But, the .270 is ballistically equivalent to the 6.5 prc within hunting ranges and the ammo is still cheap unlike the 6.5 prc.

    Why is the .270 dying?

Haha you're right. I really wanted another .30-06 but the closest I could get with Seekins is a .308 which is why I have that now. I did specifically ask why they don't make a .30-06 or even .300 wsm and it is because they're following market trends on what sells.

    Why is the .270 dying?

Thanks for the Info. I think that tracks closely to what has been said. It's popular in existing platforms so ammo sales are high but is not as common in new purchases.
