I ordered two of the Ultimate Thule -20 bags from Wiggys. They should make a nice, warm bag for ATV moose hunts or fly in trips when weight/bulk isn't an issue.
Down for another day.
Consider your choices carefully. If you so much as twist an ankle on the tundra and are unable to pack out all the meat it could cost you a small fortune.
Your son is way more important than any of your friends. Let that sink in. And don’t forget it when he wants to go with you when it comes time to enjoying the outdoors.
What about the Wiggly Hunter Ultimate Thule?
Rated to -20 so it should be good to 10F. Not very pricey at $200.
Anyone have any experience with this bag?
Need to buy a new bag for tent camping and most of the areas we hunt in Alaska are damp. I realize a down bag could work and my choice for down is a WM Sequoia MF.
Would like to know what compares in a quality synthetic before I spend $1K for a bag.
Any mummy bag is OUT. My wish list is a roomy...
I owned one before. Very impressive rifle. Had barrels in 30-06 and 9.3x62. Sold it after we departed Alaska.
Just last week decided to purchase another so ordered a R8 Savanna stock to start the process. Just wish the company I ordered it from would ship it!
It can be an expensive rabbit hole...
Good move. Now we might need more nickels. And they only cost $.14 to make.
Don't get me wrong. Big fan of getting rid of the penny. But I doubt it will save any money.
I normally go for the "buy once cry once theory".
But the Vevor 260 was $270 and the VacMaster was over $1130 delivered in Alaska. I went with the Vevor, bought it from Amazon, and spent $40 for the 4 year additional warranty.
Time will tell if I made the correct decision.
The VacMaster is...
Plenty of good bullets to consider.
Barnes TSX, Nosler Accubonds and Partitions, North Forks, Woodleighs. I would not feel handicapped to use any of these.
I would not use a Hornady, Speer, or Sierra with so many other better choices available. These three would most likely work but why use a...
I was going to mention the same. It is difficult to predict how sincere and hard working the guide will be if they donated the hunt. Maybe the guide knows there is a huge boar in a certain area and wants to keep you clear of that area. There are plenty of reasons for this, one being they might...
As a lefty it would have to be the Winchester 70. They can still be found but have not been made for many years. All are CRF and carry the old style trigger.
My second choice would be the Ruger 77.
Try to grasp how expensive the area you want to move to is. My son is a RN and his wife had a great job when they lived around Mt Vernon. They could not afford to buy a decent house and ended up moving to Alaska 2 years ago because the cost of living and the housing prices were lower.
Hunting...
Read the fine print. Most will not cover anywhere near as much as what you think. I bought what Alaska Airlines offered once then read the policy, it sucked.
The only rifles I have used on moose were a 375 H&H and a 9.3x74R double rifle. Bullets for the 375 H&H were the Nosler 300 grain. These were all the old style partitions that were individually hand turned on a lathe. The 9.3 used the 286 grain Partitions. Only recall one moose needing a...
A decent gun shop will charge 15-20% commission to sell your guns. Any thing more than that, sell them yourself.
And no, they probably are not worth what you thought they were. Figure on roughly 60-70% of what they cost new if in like new condition.
If it is a custom build you are looking at...
