1911’s in general, 9mm versions specifically

Good thread. Were the 9mm Tisas all carbon on carbon? Not sure if they offered anything else in 9mm, but I recall some issues with stainless 45 slides breaking.

NL Pure external fogging in wet climates

I hunt the coastrange and while I haven't used the NL in the wet, I have used the hydrophobic coatings from Leica, Zeiss, and Swaro on different optics. None of those made much of a difference in my use. The only one I have found to work was Rainguard, used by Bushnell. Even so, it would...

I really like Kate's white chocolate macadamia bar too, but they are too pricey for what you get.

Top 5 Food bars while backpacking

I think I have tried everything sold at WinCo, Walmart, and Costco. I like Fitcrunch the best. PB has gotten old but they have a mint chocolate chip that's pretty good. I was buying them at Costco when on sale, $15 for 18, but it looks like the price went up recently.

    Revamping optics setup

PS - the 10x SIG non-HDX show a lot of mirage compared to 8x SLC and 8x Kowa Genesis. Much is due to the extra 2x, but also the optical quality and correction. So a decent 8x would be usable, when the SIG were not. That's huge, but it might not matter depending on how you use them.

    Revamping optics setup

Let's review the 3 mile requirement next. In the pic below, the pyramid shape at the end of the ridge in the distance is ~2.9 miles. Sun was rising from the right, and you can already see the haze and junk in the air. Once higher, the sun backlights that entire ridgeline and is hell on...

    Revamping optics setup

Where the 10x SIG sucks, compared to an optically superior bino, is tripod mounted. The pic below was from a hunt where I took 8x42 SLC and spotter, but for the scouting trip I took 10x30 and 16x42 SIGs. Once on a tripod, the IS almost becomes moot. I say almost because IS can sometimes still...

    Revamping optics setup

Here's food for thought (lot to cover, so it's lengthy and may need to make a few posts to cover it all): I owned the non-HDX 10x30 and the non-HDX 16x42 - both are handy, but unless you really need the stabilization, the downsides might outweigh the IS. First, "The West" has a lot of variety...

    Revamping optics setup

I agree. Veiling glare with the NL is a showstopper for me. Same with the EL and SLC. That stated, the Swaro optical recipe for color and contrast is my favorite. SLC in particular for contrast, to find big game - I think it's better than the EL and NL. So I totally understand why people...

    The Shoot2hunt Podcast

S2H vs AA podcast... Makes no difference to me but AA dropped off my app list, maybe due to inactivity, so I don't get notifications. Not sure if you and Tanya care either, but some potential listeners might miss out. And exposure for the guests, if they want more? While I got your ear...

    Need Budget Spotting Scope Recommendations

I've personally never seen a good sample of that model - they all had optical flaws - but there are some reports of really good ones based on actual objective tests that eliminate the viewer from the equation. I keep my eyes open for used ones, as the design is obviously sound. Just a matter of...

    Need Budget Spotting Scope Recommendations

Thanks. That's what I'm afraid of with sample variation. I would definitely buy the sample I tried for $300 but I would not be surprised that there is a high percentage of lemons.

    Need Budget Spotting Scope Recommendations

Depending on the quality of your existing scope, and the magnification range you need, you may not gain much by buying a newer budget scope. I'd consider renting from Coop at https://rentoutdoorgear.com/ They are/were a sponsor at this forum. If you still want to buy something instead, the...

    Unknown suppressors OG testing

You may know this already, but by the time you notice a difference in sound it's around 3 dB. A 6 dB change is twice the sound pressure, but it can be hard to relate to. Another way to think about it is to have two similar sources, like two speakers. If they have the same amplitude, but not...

    Dyneema/DCF Tarps

Notch Li. Super easy to set up - stake one end, then the other, put one trekking pole in, stake side, then repeat on the other side. It's not spacious but the fly and carbon fiber struts weigh about the same as many DCF tarps. I've used tarps for a long time, but always seem to fiddle with...

    Dyneema/DCF Tarps

Every time I think about a glassing tarp, I just stick to my Tarptent in DCF without the interior. It's just so easy and quick with trekking poles. I like DCF but have not been in any hail storms with it. They don't seem to do as well as nylon or polyester.
