+1 for spend $500 on ammo for the 6.5 PRC, so you become a great shot and confident in it. Then save the $2500 for another tag.
A new rifle won’t make you a better shot, but more practice will. New gear isn’t going to make you a better hunter, but more tags will.
Idaho has reduced price bear tags in units where they are above objective. This helps you pick a unit that has a good amount of bears if you’re short on time.
If you want to kill a big bear late April/ early May. If you want to kill any bear mid May to the end of the season. Montana FWP has true harvest numbers that show the majority of bears are killed from mid May on.
OnX, I’m considering dropping GoHunt.
I only use GoHunt for draw odds. Their draw odds seem to funnel everyone into the same units, and I think their predictive draw odds will only amplify this. Also their unit descriptions and typical trophy sizes aren’t updated that often.
