Sorry to resurrect an old thread. Just picked up a SS 350L takedown model. It's very nice, shoots great, and compact but a bit of a pig. 20 inch barrel with a Burris 3-9 and YMH R9 it weighs over 8 lbs.
Looking at it it appears the frame could be heavily scalloped where it says 'scout' with...
I get it. I just took them at their word when I placed the backorder. Was surprised when it would not mount up in low rings. You have to admit 10 mm is a big discrepancy.
Btw the 2-8x35 is actually a 44mm objective.
The scope is listed as 2.5-10x42 but physically it is 52mm. You don't receive a manual until purchasing and I assumed the specs were accurate in the description. Pretty quirky to me.
I got the 2.5-10 this week. I like it but there are quirks.
- the E3 reticle is very nice but the illumination is not visible in daylight
-the E3 is actually etched in the top of the glass
- scope is listed as 42mm but actually measures 52mm; I had to order higher rings
- mounting is difficult...
My experience is that these are usually just expensive camping trips with more beer consumed than miles hunted. Admittedly, I have seen some comfy set ups.
The overheated trucks and fried brakes on mountain passes hauling too much are another reminder to stay light. I literally saw rig go...
Possibly windage. Elevation is just fine.
The turrets on the fixed powers are way too big, and I wish all target scopes would stop using external adjustments for windage. I'd guess everyone that actually shoots holds windage on the reticle.
People take WAY too much 'just in case crap'. Backpack hunting teaches you what you really need. My current truck is a Subaru Outback with a hitch rack. It's like Colorado camo, and gets great gas milage. Capable enough on back roads, and you don't advertise to thieves you are hunting and...
You can remove that stupid blade by just pushing the little pin out and remove it with the little spring. My stock trigger then adjusted to a crisp 2.5 lbs and is good enough that I didn't feel the need to replace it. I can't remember if I clipped the spring.
I have multiple swfa scopes but a 6x is near the bottom of my list for a 100 yd max black powder scope. No need to dial, and that reticle is not optimum for woods hunting no matter what people tell you.
Keep it simple. Buy a nice used fixed 4x scope from Weaver or older Leupold or get a...
An upgrade, no. Regular interlocks would probably be a lateral move or possibly an improvement since you are shooting heavy bullets.
Any Barnes would be a step up IMHO but Im not a advocate of hunting with target bullets like most here.
Those that have the E3 reticle ..how fine is the crosshair?
I have a couple of the ballistic plex, but find them a little heavy for target work. Is the E3 more fine by comparison?
