55grn Game King. 250 yards. 3,130 MV. It bolted about 25 yards after hit and folded.
This bullet is a solid performer when used with care. Lung shots can be relied on for deer. There will almost always be a death rush.
Entry at rear of shoulder
Exit ribs off side
Projectile from under...
Yes they were. Im using solid copper/lead free on the deer I shoot for a charity. And as you say its interesting to gather comparative data.
About energy, lung/shoulder shot deer with the 55 grn Hornady and Sierra at mid ranges (250 odd yards) demonstrate that the co-relation between tissue...
.223 and penetration. 62 grn Maker bullet.
Hands up, I muffed this shot. 100 yards standing and the deer was walking. Hit it in the 3rd rib (from the back). Ouch. It staggered and disappeared. My dog tracked it about 150/200 yards. It was alive, but immobile and I quickly dispatched it. Not my...
They were the 62 grn Tipped TRex. Ive only shot 4 deer with them out to 250 (odd) yards.
Every projectile exited viciously. Good blood splatter but not necessarily a blood trail. None of them ran very far - I think 20 yards max. Internal damage looked more like a carve than a splatter (see the...
Ive posted about 55 grn GameKings, 60 grn Hammers, 62 grn Norma (similar to Game Kings), 62 grn Makers, 62 Gold Dots And various other under 65 grn bullets. This thread is somewhat bias towards the excellent 77 TMK, as it ought to be 'cos of the evidence, but that distracts from the fact that...
There is a vid review on here somewhere (home page maybe). It's not much of a real field test though and looks mostly staged. The pack is still a mystery to me in regards to comparative load carrying capability and field durability. I like the look of them but there are still too many unknowns...
5 deer in an evening.
2 shot with factory PMC Bronze 55 grn. 200 yds, high shoulder. These bullets seem to work well. One dead on spot and one made it 15 yards.
Next one a Red deer hind. Neck shot with 74 grn Berger custom. 150 yds. Bang flop.
Next 225 yds high shoulder shot, 74 grn Berger...
It's just a lead tipped cup and core bullet very similar to the Sierra Game King. I had 150 of them and loaded them up to use for wallaby culling (they are a major pest here in NZ) and inevitably while culling I also came across and shot the odd deer. I was impressed by them so have held some of...
The Hammer Hunter (I use 60 grn) is a good performer on the proviso that its driven very fast. This isn't difficult because they seem to easily tolerate what would be warm loads for cup and core. My .223 velocity with them is 3250-ish. The fact that they shed their vicious petals seems to add...
Regardless of what bullet you use in .223 the possibility of a blood trail is very random, but less likely with the 77TMK. There is no .223 bullet that Ive used (most of the bullets mentioned in this thread and more) that will reliably leave a good blood trail. Ive shot 56 deer this year and...
Another .223 perspective. Ordinary cup and core lead tipped 62 grn Norma projectile. MV 3180. 200 yards. Projectile exited and left vicious in and out holes. Plenty of blood and dropped inside 5 yards. 20" Savage lightweight, 1:8 barrel.
Loving mine. I take the bag off for day hunts and just use the load sling (coat goes under that). The load sling has a pocket on it (small bits and pieces goes in that). And the lid for larger items.
Pack bag on or not without a load, the stiff frame isn't very tactile especially if you don't do...
If you are saying that Talleys are unreliable you are over thinking the whole thing.
Isn't that the case for every mounting system that relies on weaver type mounting blocks for standard rings?? Just 2 screws holding the block.
Looks like it's never been used. Pristine.
Apart from the failure, what was the pack actually like to carry a load with?
With your experience what was it that attracted you to the Kobuk over other packs in the same top tier price range?
