“Glassing” set up for the house?

Thank you all for your thoughts. I spent some time on Basemaps and with my rangefinder at the new place and it appears I over-estimated the distance I’ll be looking. It’s more like 0.5 - 1.5 miles where I have been seeing wildlife and hope to focus on with the home setup. Also have a lead on an...

    The Shoot2hunt Podcast

Thank you, that’s the one I’m remembering and I think is the one referenced earlier in the thread for anyone else wondering.

    The Shoot2hunt Podcast

This is bugging me now, I know I’ve heard this story, I had thought it was maybe the MeatEater podcast or Exo but can’t find it on either one. If it’s the same story, I believe they had hardcast lead bullets in the 10mm and the Game and Fish crew noted there was very little expansion or damage...

Montana Rifle Co. Junction 308Win Field Evaluation

Have been reading about the Grohman belt knife after reading the previous comments, looks like a great design. Interestingly, my dad has an old Chicago cutlery knife he’s had for decades and despite trying many others, he always goes back to using it over other designs. The Grohman seems to have...

“Glassing” set up for the house?

Thank you, I’ve seen a lot of praise for the Athlon Ares series. I think I’m likely down to that or a Vortex if I decide to buy a spotter that won’t break the budget. Seems Pentax and Opticron are other lesser known brands that get good reviews as well. The more I think about it, I think I’ll...

“Glassing” set up for the house?

Thank you, I was thinking the same that while 15x would be awesome for hunting/glassing, but leave me wanting more at such long distances. I currently have this Konus scope and the image quality is so poor I almost never use it at this point. For perspective, I usually can see holes on paper...

“Glassing” set up for the house?

Looking at all your suggestions, this may be a bugger investment than I initially expected. May need to do a bit more research, save up for a while and revise the budget… I love the idea of big eyes or BTX but I think that would be too expensive at this time. Maybe in the future though. Do you...

“Glassing” set up for the house?

Good point about budget, that certainly changes the suggestions. I hadn’t thought much about cost yet but I’m trying to be better about embracing the “buy once, cry once” mentality and I know optics can get expensive quickly. That said, if the setup I buy is more versatile for hunting/range use...

“Glassing” set up for the house?

Hi all, I’ve been fortunate to recently buy a home with a view where we can see the foothills of the mountains from about 0.5 - 2.5 miles away. I know there are lots of deer and elk that roam those foothills and would enjoy being able to watch them up close and determine the number and size of...

Victor cheek riser, i feel dumb now

I grew up shooting recreationally, just a few shots now and then to zero and then hunting each fall. Like you, never put much thought into rifle fit. Last year I started shooting a lot more with a goal of becoming proficient at longer ranges. My first range session I shot about 300 rounds prone...

    Significant weight loss.

Great job losing weight and keeping it off. Sounds like you’re developing some healthy habits that will serve you well for years to come! Regarding the quote above, just a plug that this book is available as a free audiobook on Spotify if you’re not much of a reader but still interested. I...

Tikka 6.5 CM 16" barrel velocity

I got a velocity of roughly 2500 FPS out of my 20” CTR using factory 140-ELDM loads. I’d guess you’ll get about 2400 FPS with a 16” barrel and factory 140’s. I’m making a 6.5CM RSS off a Tikka lite and cutting my barrel to 18” for what it’s worth.

Long range shooting challenge from Backfire

You’re literally describing me. 2 years ago I watched everything he made. Plan was to get a Browning x-bolt in 7 Mag and put and Leupold on it. In preparation for that purchase I started researching the Leupold scopes and found my way to the drop evaluations here on Rokslide. Fast-forward...

    26-06 vs 25-06 Ackley vs 6.5-06

Just an FYI, Tikka makes a 1:8 twist 22-250. Lots of guys use them as a start to building a 22CM.
