Newly lost faith in health care

As a family doctor in a rural area (meaning very few specialists available to my patients without a lot of extra effort), I have so many thoughts upon reading this thread. First, to the OP, I have to say I’m sorry you had such a poor experience. I agree with others, find a better doctor. At a...

Pay off mortgage or make monthly payments and invest the rest?

Thank you, I think you are the only one to pick up on that detail. It does change the equation a bit to be in that position. I’m extremely grateful for our current situation, though I have a healthy amount of student loan debt to show for it. Thankfully that student loan debt is a lower rate...

Pay off mortgage or make monthly payments and invest the rest?

Thank you for your thoughts. Want to make sure I understand your suggestion. Basically, we have (relatively) low taxes right now thanks to the TCJA but this may expire soon and since it is unclear what my tax liability could be in the future, you suggest putting money in Roth now to avoid...

Pay off mortgage or make monthly payments and invest the rest?

This has been a thread I’ve followed with much interest. I wish I could say we were in a similar position to OP but my wife and I have been renting until last year due to knowing we’d be moving every few years for my medical training. We bought our first house in our 30’s last year and have a...

I was initially impressed with the growing list but you lost me here. Man I hate rats…

    Fractured Sesamoid Bone - Sesamoidectomy?

I’m very sorry to hear about your injury and subsequent struggles. Sesamoid injuries can be very tricky, as can tarsal tunnel syndrome. I’ve cared for a few patients with both of these problems in my time doing sports medicine as a family physician. I generally agree with what your orthopedist...

    Shoot2Hunt University

I second this. At the summer course last year, one of the instructors decided to torture himself using an MOA scope and went from hitting everything on demand out to 600+ faster than any student to frequently missing mid to long range shots due to wind as well as taking far longer to dial and...

Equipment versus practice posts and Rifle practice/shooting

This is impressive and for a quick offhand shot, seems like a great compromise to get a shot off quickly. When I’ve tried this I have difficulty shooting well due to my backpack strap on my right shoulder and I don’t care for it as a result. When I was discussing an extra 5-10 seconds needed...

    Student loan refinance experiences?

Thank you for pointing that out, I wasn’t aware any refinancing options existed that still had that flexibility. That would definitely take away some of the risks I see with refinancing. Would you mind sharing additional info about the group/company you used and your experience so far?

    Student loan refinance experiences?

I’ve spent a lot of time considering this. Like many here I had student loans from medical school. I had planned to refinance but then covid happened and my loans were paused with no interest so I’ve been waiting to see what happens. Here’s my general view of pros/cons: Pros of refinancing: -...

    Restocked SWFA 3-9x42 Gen 1

Out of curiosity have you installed your shims yet? I’m only on the 3rd rev (and just barely) on my 3-9x and I had to use every shim in the kit and the stop is 1.5 mils below my current zero. It feels like either I’m missing something or more shims would be needed it my zero was a higher...

Most reliable and shootable 9mm semi auto pistols

This has been a great discussion so far, thank you all for adding your thoughts. I have a Glock 19 and it’s okay but I struggle to shoot it well due to grip and trigger. Rather than modify the Glock, I think I’d prefer to get something smaller and with a manual safety for carrying in the...

Show your Tikka ten round groups

I always manage to mess up one shot out of the 10. I came down 0.3 mil from first to second target. That’s a 1.5” dot for reference…

    Scope Zero Check Thread

Tikka 223 RSS. Traveled in truck over 200 miles since I last shot it. This is a 1.5” dot and this AAC ammo is about 2 MOA in my gun. Based on this 10-round group, I would say it’s still zeroed.

Equipment versus practice posts and Rifle practice/shooting

At the S2H winter course, this was the ultimate cheat code when we were competing in a timed format to hit a known target quickly. Those such as @Formidilosus who hunt with rifle in hand (and therefore were allowed to do this when competing) were probably saving 5-10 seconds compared to when...
