Voted and Sub'd. But I'd like to "shout out" Robby Denning on the recent podcast interview of Brandon Diamond, CO DOW regional wildlife manager out of Gunnison (BTW, I met Brandon "on the trail" in the Weminuche a few years ago....gave him the coordinates for a FS cabin he was looking for...
I have been largely away from my rifles for close to 15 years (bowhunting). I have rifle hunts coming up and have put my to back in the water. I feel like Rip VanWinkle .... It's amazing how things have changed, not just with rifles and related equipment but also the status of the game.
Okay...
I agree and understand what you say.
Perhaps the more useful and "objectively reliable" part of their comments from the Leupold staff had to do with the similarities (I think they said "identical") construction of the back half of the Mark 4HD and Mark 5HD and their rationale for the pricing...
A late reply, but I will repeat what the Leupold Rep at the Hillsboro Hunt Expo told me in response to my question about price, build, function and quality differences between the 5HD and 4HD a few weeks ago (March 2025):
The Mark 4HD is a newer design that was not limited by the military...
Oops - just noticed that I'm the second person to essentially say the same thing. Sorry about that.
Late response here, but it wouldn't surprise me if most folks use inexpensive "inch-lb" torque wrenches that very possibly could be off by 10% or 20%. So, if a manufacturer is using such light...
I was expecting a larger difference so I ran the numbes on JBM and sure enough, the drop is very close. I was surprised! No insult intended when I checked the numbers.
I view drift as a bigger problem, and thus I want to minimize that. So I'll still generally bias in favor of the longer...
I'm okay with their pricing decisions. I'm not okay with them lying to us. Claiming that they reduced the portion size because people were complaining that they couldn't eat it all. Give me a break. Now WRT price, they are welcome to do what they want. But why not just say "yeah, our expenses...
Exactly ... I'm late to this forum thread, but I just posted the same thing. Not once in over 40 years of eating that stuff have I felt there was too much food in any single package. Does Peak think we are stupid?
Wow, Peak is claiming that they were putting so much food in the pouch that people couldn't eat it all so they reduced the portion. I call BS.
Never once in my over 40 years of eating freeze dried meals have I felt that the quantity of food in a re-hydrated pouch was "too-much". Not...
For elk hunting and potentially carrying quarters I don't think you can do better than the EXO packs. I have a couple of them.
If you are not going to "backpack" hunt, you can go with a smaller EXO bag and still have the exact same load carrying experience. I have a K3 that is advertised as...
Forgive me if I missed some details. I think there are a few considerations that would be helpful to know.
What is your current level of experience and proficiency with longer distance shooting (probably anything past 300 yards and ideally to 600 yards with wind...)
What will your new rifle...
Since this thread was still alive in 2024 and I have a Helags 2 and a Katium 3 GT (and a bunch of other tents) I'll provides some comments / clarifications on ventilation based on my experience with those two tents and considerable reading on the Nallow.
It sounds like in this discussion...
