Looking to Move to Western NC or SW VA - Need Advice

Western NC only has two species of venomous snakes and they aren't more or less common than anywhere else in the Appalachians or midwest. It'd be the last thing to worry about.

    <$350 Binos

Athlon Cronus for sure. You should be able to get them used or on sale for ~$350. The same could be found for Leupold BX-4 and Kowa BX. I've compared the older Japanese model Vipers to both of these models and both of them, but especially the Cronus blew them out of the water IMO. I'd try out...

    Grayl Water filter system

I could definitely see the Ti being tougher to press. The rubber bottom on the original sometimes annoys me because it makes the bottle difficult (moreso just annoying) to insert / remove into the pocket of a pack, but I've never had any issues just placing it on a rock or gravel for pressing...

NC Mountain Black Bear - Question

Just curious - how different is it hunting with just two dogs? I always loved the idea of going out with just one dog staying silent just to track the bear. It seems thats how some of the pioneers used to hunt them.

    OnX hypocrisy

Also if the owner of my company has 10k acres or whatever of private land next to a landlocked section, I'm just gonna try and hunt there.

    OnX hypocrisy

Does everyone using the app use the symbols exactly like they're meant to be used in that way? I sure don't. I put the "tree stand" marker as a waypoint for my stand, a place that would be good to stand, or a 50 year old stand stuck in a tree that looked cool. Say for instance everyone does...

    PA No Sunday Hunting

Landowners posting has nothing to do with antler restrictions. Hunters leasing land want deer that are even bigger, or want to hunt by themselves. They could take out antler restrictions completely right now and nothing would change because they're paying for their own choice to select whatever...

Is the future of hunting all doom and gloom?

Most rural counties in the northeast and midwest have been declining in population for decades, with no foreseeable end in sight. There's plenty of opportunity and public land from my experience in PA and WV. https://www.visualcapitalist.com/u-s-population-change-by-county-2010-2018/

    Feral Horses

Horses evolved in North America and went extinct ~10k years ago with all the other megafauna. So we just need to bring back American lions and short-faced bears, problem solved.

MeatEater Shooting for $100M in Revenues

I think its disingenuous to ignore the long term goals and positive impact a company or brand produces based almost entirely on what some guy who is affiliated with said company "retweeted" years ago. Its like people want to boil everything down to a single unnuanced statement and bury their...

Anyone been bit by a rattlesnake in back country?

The common theme in this thread is close calls. This shows how reluctant most snakes are to bite. If you frequent any area with venomous snakes, chances are you have stepped on or within a few feet of several without ever knowing it. "Legitimate" bites aka truly accidental bites are rare, and...

Tired of former pro athletes turned hunting celebs?

Can we get links to several of these pro-athlete YT channels and podcasts? I'm not saying they don't exist, but so far I don't think any context has been provided. Meateater had several pro-athletes as guests on their podcast and show, and from what I gather all those people grew up...

Tired of former pro athletes turned hunting celebs?

I think I've only seen one name of a pro-athlete mentioned in this thread - Jody Davis. Who are all the other ones that started YT channels and podcasts?

    Grayl Water filter system

I've used a Grayl for two years now and I love it. It's faster than a Steri-pen and doesn't need charged.
