Part 1: Know the area pretty good. I spent a fair amount of time in the neighboring unit 751 and lived on Vallecito lake and hiked the weminuche wilderness area a bunch. Your pin drop or link didn't show up in your message but I am pretty sure I know about where you're looking at. The area has elk and you'l love the scenic landscape... The mountains are big and the Mesa is pretty barren so you'll want to get down in elevation a bit to get to bedding areas. There is plenty of water. Where the trail splits just before Sheridan mtn. I would go left down towards the lake.
