I bought the Tikka compact. Sent it to Kampfeld to be threaded and cerakoted. There are cheaper options, but that 223 will work forever. I have 4 daughters to teach how to shoot and hunt using it. Once they all finally outgrow it, I’ll put it in an adult stock.
Midway has some "open box" Crispis on sale for under $300 right now. I just ordered a pair of insulated Nevadas to try. I'm hoping Schnees will run a sale on their mountain boots in the next monthish so I can try a pair of Beartooths as well. And then send back whichever one I don't pick.

I’ve used it in 6.5 Creedmoor and 30-06 without trouble. It’s definitely my standard powder in the Creedmoor. It doesn’t always give me the velocity I want from the ‘06, but I can’t say I’ve ever had it just suck on the accuracy front. IMR 4451? Yeah, I had a barrel hate that stuff, though...
What bipod are you using at 5-6 ounces? Spartan?
ETA: Man, if they could have gotten that thing under 8 pounds bare it’d be a lot more interesting for NRL Hunter. And chambered it in 6 Creed. For factory w/o power factor, could have been a good option. Oh well.
I learn something new every day. I had no idea HORUS made/imports a scope. I only knew of their name because of those over-busy, grid-style reticles I can only assume were developed for artillery spotters (I'm obviously being a bit facetious). Their current scope is a 5-25x50, made in Japan...
I was (pleasantly) surprised when I heard that price point. I'm very curious what concessions they had to make to hit it. I understand the weight is coming in a little higher than originally intended, and I would expect the glass to be "good" and capable through legal shooting light but not...
That Hornady podcast beginning around minute 50 discusses with graphs and charts what is going on with a bc vs actual drag of the bullet and what happens when you start truing. I’m not qualified to give advice as to what matters and when and what you should do, but I find this stuff interesting...
I also shot the OK match. My first one and I shot in Skills division. It was humbling, to say the least. As others have said, the hard part was finding targets and managing gear/building positions on the clock. The shooting sure seemed like the easy part. Also, my scope lost zero...
