  • Hi, I hunted the unit last year for rifle season and we were able to get one elk between us. I would be more than happy to share information with you. I am headed back this fall and would love to hear what you see on your trip and would share the knowledge I have of the unit. Let me know if interested.
Hey Huntrluke, the areas where I bumped into approx 2 dozen cows was if you're hiking from trailhead of palisades creek, before you get to the lower lake cut in left and get off trail and hike up the highest knob. It's gonna be steep. You can also access through another trail called "chicken spring" where there's water running from the main trail apppro 20-40 yards from the trail. Take that trail in approx 2 miles and get off that trail and hike up to the highest knob. I also encountered some elk and deer is if you follow the creek as far as you can until the creek bends right (east) and then that's where you turn left and again, go as far and as you can and keep your eyes and ears open. If you go to the upper lake and stay on the north side of the lake, go 3/4 miles in and cut up into the hills and that's where we encountered groups of deer. Just about everyday we had several encounters and this was during May for spring bear season. Hope this info helps!
