Yep watch the deer at Strategic Edge. They are used to gun fire.
On my lease that is 15 minutes from SE, folks are shooting guns year round. Deer aren’t really spooked by it.
I threw my APA Little Bastard on my 20” Tikka 308 shooting 178 ELDX and forgot how easy it was to spot hits and misses at 600 yards.
I like my suppressor, but the recoil impulse makes spotting impacts more difficult than a brake.
For long range hunting, especially hunting alone, do you...
Bumping this back up to the top because I tried something tonight that has been discussed in the thread.
I loaded up fifty 308 cases tonight with Ramshot TAC and 178 ELDX. Once I got my powder measure set, I simply lifted up my loading block and went from case to case dropping charges. Wow it...
I did not shoot the rifle before having it cut. As soon as I got it from the FFL, I drove it over to Bug Holes and had them cut it back and thread it. My guess would be about a 50 FPS loss, so negligible.
Threw a muzzle brake on the 308 Tikka CTR today and shot 50 rounds of 168 ELDM handloads. I was hammering the 8” plate at 600 yards in 15-25 MPH winds.
I forgot how much easier it is to spot impacts with a good brake on a 308.
I recommend a Zeiss Conquest V4 in 4-16x44 with a Z-Plex reticle. They run about $1K
It’s a basic second focal plane duplex reticle that will be easy for kids. The Zeiss duplex is a little finer than the duplex in the Leupolds, but not too fine.
I received a brand new Veracity PH today via UPS. My original had to go back 2x and the second time, they replaced it with a new one.
I’m very happy with their warranty and service.
Shot at the range with a guy that had the Nomad TI XC on a 26” barrel 300 win mag.
I was amazed how quiet it was at the shot. A big part of that is the 26” barrel, but it’s a sweet can.
