    How do grizzly bears taste?

    I've tried some meat from a couple freshly killed spring (no salmon around yet) coastal brown bears. Very very tough, and both had a mild grassy taste, which is likely what they were eating.

    Sorry to hear that Josh. Another friend got bear finger maybe 5 years ago after skinning a big AK Penn bear that had been fighting, with lots of facial wounds. For him, the docs figured it out quicker but still the treatment and recovery took a long time.

    They are outside of your price range but you should at least talk to Glacier Guides Inc. in Southeast Alaska. They operate out of 80' yachts, chef cooked meals, and kill lots of giant black bears. Every aspect of their operation is dialed-in. Spot n stalk.

    Ice/snow comparison between rifles

    Only time I've had a bolt rifle fail was with spindrift while riding a snogo in deep powder, 5-15 degrees F, rifle slung crossways on my back. Model 700 in 6mm Rem. Took awhile to get the bolt working and able to close the chamber on a round. Almost cost me a wolf. I like this test BTW, thanks.

    I'd go more into July for the fishing. And skip Fairbanks. Instead drive Valdez to Paxson, over to Cantwell, see "the Park" (McKinley is personal preference), and eventually get to Homer.
