Oh yea, baby!  It’s time to give these bad boys away to one lucky Rok Blog subscriber.  If you’re just landing here on the Rok Blog, let me catch you up.  I started writing in my series, Killing Big Mule Deer, about the number one technique to kill big mule deer in the West: Glassing.  As part of that series, I arranged a killer giveaway with long-time Rokslide sponsor, Vortex Optics.  They generously donated a set of their new 15×56 Vortex Vulture binoculars for me to review AND giveaway to one of you (thanks Vortex).

I’ve used the Vulture HD binoculars from the scouting season through the archery, muzzleloader, and rifle seasons. They are a great binocular for the money and the exact optic I used to find the buck Jalepeno many days this fall.  Some of you who couldn’t wait for the giveaway and purchased the Vultures have agreed with me on their value.  Watch for a review later this year.

Well, it’s time to announce the winner.  I followed the rules in the original post to select our winner: Win the Vortex 15×56 Binocular

Using random.org’s number generator, I pulled Chad Eidson as our winner!

Chad, you have 10 days to claim your prize by emailing me at [email protected] AND posting in the comments below (a simple Yee-Haw will suffice!)

If I haven’t heard from you by November 30th, I’ll draw for another winner.

Thanks everyone for following the Live Hunts.  Consider supporting Vortex Optics for your next purchase.  They make some great optics and stand behind their products.

Speaking of Live Hunts, while they are over for me for 2014, I do have one more hunt I’ll be rolling out on the Rok Blog starting November 30th.  While not a Live Hunt uploaded from the field, it was filmed in the backcountry and will be posted day-by-day as it happened.  You can tune in and see how I hunt the backcountry solo for big mule deer in the rut.

As usual, I’ve paired up with another great Rokslide sponsor, First Lite, and will be giving away one of their Uncompahgre Puffy Jackets in their new camo pattern, Fusion, to some lucky Rokslider who follows this hunt to completion.

Their Puffy was my favorite new piece of gear in 2013 and still ranks high on my list.  The rules to win will be posted before the hunt starts.

Between now and November 30th, I’ll be blogging on how I prepare for a backcountry hunt from the horses to the gear to the gun.  Make sure you subscribe to the Rok Blog top right of page at “Subscribe to blog” under Fitness/Other links.

You won’t regret it!

Robby Denning
Robby Denning started hunting mule deer in the late 1970’s, only missing one season in 35 years. At 25, he gave up the pursuit of all other big-game to focus on taking the best bucks possible. He began hunting the West on a DIY budget hunting an average of 30 days a year for mule deer. Robby loves the hunt as much as the kill and the entire process from research to scouting to hunting. He’s killed four bucks over 200 inches in the last 15 seasons, mostly on easily-obtained tags. He owns a public-land scouting service and runs a private-land outfitting business helping other hunters in their pursuit of deer and elk. Robby has scouted and hunted literally thousands of square miles of mule deer country and brings a wealth of knowledge about these experiences with him. To him, the weapon of choice is just a means-to-an-end and will hunt with bow, rifle, or muzzleloader – whatever it takes to create an opportunity to take a great mule deer. He is also the author of "Hunting Big Mule Deer" available on Amazon. Robby believes all of creation is from God for man to manage, respect, and through which to know its Creator
