Within a week of my first bowhunt of the year, I want my bow sighted for broadheads and my first arrow and first group of the day as good as I can expect.  After all, it’s too late to fix anything.  I’ve been that guy at the range the night before the season trying to sight broadheads (and cussing up a storm) while my friends are already at camp drilling stumps at 80 yards.  Never again (at least as much as I can control).

Here are four quick videos with only a few days to go until the hunt for Jalapeño begins.:

1) Where I was with two month’s practice:

2) Where I’m at with one week until the opener:

I won’t win any awards, but I’m happy with that.

3)  Now let’s take a look at what accuracy on the mountain probably really looks like:

4) Finally, a little fun at 80 yards:

Actually I’m thrilled with the results of combining the Athens Convixtion bow, the Black Gold Ascent, Ripcord Rest, and Solid Broadheads.  It’s the best this deer hunter has ever shot and a testament to how keeping up with the latest equipment can give you an edge not possible 10 years ago.

If you’re just tuning in, you can get caught up on all the equipment used in those videos here (and win an Athens Bow, Tight Spot Quiver, and Solid Broadheads)

Robby Denning
Robby Denning started hunting mule deer in the late 1970’s, only missing one season in 35 years. At 25, he gave up the pursuit of all other big-game to focus on taking the best bucks possible. He began hunting the West on a DIY budget hunting an average of 30 days a year for mule deer. Robby loves the hunt as much as the kill and the entire process from research to scouting to hunting. He’s killed four bucks over 200 inches in the last 15 seasons, mostly on easily-obtained tags. He owns a public-land scouting service and runs a private-land outfitting business helping other hunters in their pursuit of deer and elk. Robby has scouted and hunted literally thousands of square miles of mule deer country and brings a wealth of knowledge about these experiences with him. To him, the weapon of choice is just a means-to-an-end and will hunt with bow, rifle, or muzzleloader – whatever it takes to create an opportunity to take a great mule deer. He is also the author of "Hunting Big Mule Deer" available on Amazon. Robby believes all of creation is from God for man to manage, respect, and through which to know its Creator
