I hunt and scout mule deer everywhere from established road systems to deep in the backcountry. Consequently, I’m always looking for practical ways to save weight & bulk, while increasing efficiency. I think The Outdoorsmans Window Mount system here accomplishes all that, and even more.
For years, I’ve ran a 16.6 ounce Manfrotto 342RC2. This system has no window mount accessory option. However, The Outdoorsmans Pan Head and Micro Pan Head both pair with The Outdoorsmans Window Mount (see the short video below for a demonstration).
This means I can have an optics mounting system usable both from the truck and from the backpack. Not that I’m counting ounces at the truck, but if I were, I’m only paying a 3 oz. penalty when pairing The Pan Head with the Window Mount, and no penalty when pairing with The Micro Pan Head. Here’s how the weights break down:
- Window Mount 8.75oz
- Pan Head 10.5oz
- Micro Pan Head 7.5 oz
- Window Mount with Pan Head, 19.25 ozs
- Window Mount with Micro Pan Head, 16.25 ozs
More importantly, in my backpack where it counts, I’m saving 6 ozs with the Pan Head or 9 ozs when running the Micro Pan Head. Both Outdoorsmans heads are also less bulky than the Manfrotto.
That is a win-win my friends. Check out the short video at the top of this post to see the full function of the system.
